There might be a problem if the Wizard had absolutely zero chance vs a dragon only 1 level higher instead of a really low one (which is all I think has been claimed).

They dont have solos in this edition not really you make a solo by making a significantly higher level creature you know like level +3 or 4 or 5 or some such. And then doing voodoo dances over it so that it can handle status effects and split its attacks better.

Please re-read the modified original post.

Frankly re-read what I said... I think a wizard or fighter of level 8 ought to have "some chance" versus a dragon who was only 1 level higher or levels are nonsense ratings. Its entirely independent of whether his conclusions are meritous. (I may be incorrect about his conclusions ... dont care)

Really a party of 5 level 8 characters should find a Green somewhere between an Average encounter and a Hard encounter. Any single one should be totally destroyed by the Dragon, if that's not happening, then there is a problem...Smile

I see XP rating is king ...why do monsters have level again?

Others have complained about the monsters not being up to snuff without getting flack for it.. is it because you do number crunching.... instead of being touchy feelie about it?

Improvisation in 4e: Improv. Attacks(by wrecan) - Fave 4E Improvisations

The Non-combatant Adventurer

Reality is unrealistic - and even monkeys protest unfairness

Dynamic Reflavoring : The Fighter : The Wizard : The Swordmage
Creative Character Collection - Featuring:The Faerie Master - Snow White - Joxer - Ironman - Elric - Bloodwright

By virtue of being a player your characters are the protagonists in a heroic fantasy game even at level one

Rounds it takes a level 8 Fighter to kill a Green Dragon is 9 rounds.
Rounds it takes a Green Dragon to kill a level 8 Fighter is 15 rounds.

Is anybody disputing this.. they seem obcessed with the wizard?

Mainly I think its just the name "Lokiare" it seems to get a lot of ire. A while back I posted as a new poster because I was having access problems and thought my account had been broken so I had to create a new one, people were all nice and polite until I identified myself. Strange...Smile

I see some weaknesses on your analysis.

1.  If you have blink active and Bite, one of two things will happen.
-Ankheg states that any creature grabbed/bit travels with the Ankheg, meaning that blink just drags the green dragon with it.
-You blink, turn etherial, and no longer have a bite/Grab on the green dragon.

This means you either lose the automatic damage, or you lose the 50/50 chance of being hit.

Actually the earlier editions described the ethereal plane as a kind of hazy shadow of the prime material plane where you can see and feel everything on the prime material, but can't affect it. So you could retain your hold, since you aren't traveling anywhere, you are plane shifting, which is a totally different thing. We are also talking RAW here and Blink doesn't specify that grabbed creatures plane shift with you.

This is where you are wrong.

From the spell Blink:
Unless you have magic that can reach across
planes, you can affect and be affected only be
things on the Ethereal Plane while you are
absent.

So, rules as written, you can't maintain your hold, as doing so would require you to be able to affect things across the planes.

Or WotC could use clearer wording and do what we pay them for...

Totally true.  I think the contention though is in calling your interpretation RAW.  RAW implies that it is THE rule as opposed to one possible interpretation on a badly worded document.  The problem is no one knows what they mean by all abilities.  Do you lose all your skills, knowledge skills, the ability to understand common?  Keeping your mental stats but none of the knowledge based on those stats seems a bit weird.  Are you now a really charming basilisk and a big hit at the parties, so while keeping the stat makes some degree of sense how many skills from charisma would translate anyways?  I have no real problem with the person becoming the stat block of the monster since that seems more balanced, but it needs to be more clear in what is kept and what is lost whatever the rule ends up being.

Well, by raw numbers, no.  There's always that problem that a dragon can, um, you know, fly. D:
