Copper dragon missed a ranged attack, what next?
what about acid breath? does it work?

I don't see why Acid Breath wouldn't work. The card reads, "Whenever this creature makes a ranged attack...". If Acid Breath was only meant to work when the Copper Dragon hits, the card would read "Whenever this creature hits..." or "Whenever this creature deals damage...".

Poljack is correct.
If you read the cards carefully each one tells you it's effects.
Some, like the Dragon, say when x happens, this creature does y. Meaning if x is met (damaging a target, killing a target, making a ranged attack, etc.) the creature MUST do y (In the case of the Dragon: the splash happens whether you want it to or not).
Others, like the Drow Assassin say when x happens, this creature CAN do y. Meaning it is your choice to use it or not. (At the end of it's activation the Assassin CAN deal 10 damage to an adjacent tapped creature. If you are surrounded only by your creatures, you can choose not to damage them.)
