I need some help with a nature based character I am working on.  I would like be a fey but not a pixie or be part fey but not fey-touched.  If I am either half-nymph or half-fey shoulkd I have my father being an elf?  What do you think of my character being a druid/ranger?  If I go with just being a Druid should I just stay a Druid and going to level 20 instead of taking a PrC?  Her unmodifed stast are Str 15, Dex 15, Con 15, Int 16, Wis 17, Cha 17,

Alright, I have to ask - HOW ARE YOU CONSTANTLY GETTING SCORES THIS HIGH?!  That is a 60-point buy right there; that is literally two characters in one.

Loaded dice, or what?  I have literally NEVER seen you have "unmodified" stats that equal less than 50 pb.  The normal range for pb is 25-28, with some (like me) going as high as 32.

The fey races I'd give top consideration to are duskling (Magic of Incarnum, p10), faun (Deities and Demigods, p133), gruwaar (Dragon 317, p25), jermlain (Monster Manual II, p131), and killoren (Races of the Wild, p102). These all have the nice property that they don't cost you any levels.

Druid is always good. If you go with druid, you generally want to stick with just druid throughout.

No, I assume your DM is having you use a nonstandard rolling method specifically designed to produce scores this high. The standard rolling method is described on page 7 of the Player's Handbook. For the sake of curiosity, can you describe how your DM has you roll?

He had use roll 3D6 which I find stupid.  What is the best way to roll for your character's attributes?  This Wizard link has the Half-fey as a two level class.  wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/sp/2004021...

You rolled 3d6 6 times and got those numbers?  With the average of those dice being 10.5, I'd figure on at least one number lower than a 13...

20 random rolls (3d6):  13, 9, 12, 15, 9, 7, 14, 16, 8, 10, 12, 11, 11, 8, 14, 9, 12, 11, 12, 11.

Even rolling 4d6 and dropping the lowest would end up lower than your rolls...

20 random rolls (4d6, drop lowest):  16, 16, 12, 11, 11, 8, 13, 13, 10, 9, 14, 11, 16, 13, 15, 13, 11, 13, 16, 10.

That's not to say that you didn't, just that in your posts, you've got improbably high rolls for each of your characters that wouldn't result even if you rolled 20 times and chose the best 6.

You can actually go one better than that - the exact distribution for 3d6 is pretty easy to figure out, so you can work out the odds for each individual score showing up:

3 or 18: 0.005
4 or 17: 0.014
5 or 16: 0.028
6 or 15: 0.046
7 or 14: 0.069
8 or 13: 0.097
9 or 12: 0.116
10 or 11: 0.125

Since each ability roll is independent, we can figure out what the probability of your particular array is by simply multiplying the corresponding individual odds together: 0.046*0.046*0.046*0.028*0.014*0.014=0.00000000514.

See why we're skeptical?

3d6 should work out to statistically average characters, with most scores in the 9-12 range. In fact, the "standard" ability score array, corresponding to a point-buy equivalent to 3d6, is 13/12/11/10/9/8. That's a far cry from 15/15/15/16/17/17. You have absolutely nothing to complain about, assuming you rolled that fairly. Your teammates have everything to complain about, if you rolled that unfairly.

On your other point, stick to standard Player's Handbook races. You need a very solid grasp of the rules in order to handle a level-adjusted or racial-hit-dice race, or a Savage Progression, and your questions suggest you're relatively new.

My current DM insists on 4d6 rolled stats because point buy is broken. We rolled stats before the session on our own, and I ended up with 13, 9, 11, 17, 13, 14 and was excited. Everyone else has similar stats to the OP. How did they get stats like this? Apparently the DM wanted us to roll 4d6, but we could roll as many sets as we wanted....

Some groups have ridicilus rolling methods.

OP - How many sets of stats did you roll before settling on this one?
