So today, after work, I'm running home, grabbing the SO, and then going back to work so we can go to a work-sponsored BBQ and socialize with people who are vaguely my co-workers (they're not really in my department and most of 'em I won't know).
So I gotta ask... do these company-wide social get-togethers ever stop being awkward? I mean, when it's just the guys you actually work with, it's not so bad. But this one is mostly going to be people I don't know and have, at best, just seen around.

Why would it be awkward? You get to eat free food and meet new people. Maybe you throw some horseshoes or play volleyball. I don't see the issue. I mean, I could happily walk into that group and have a good time, and I've never even seen any of them. So what's the problem?

I wouldn't know cuz I refuse to participate in the few events like that we have. Hell, I don't like doing pot luck lunches an' stuff when it's just my department (which is small). I don't like signing birthday cards. I don't want anyone to know when my birthday is (too bad for me). So yeah, I just wouldn't know. Never felt even remotely compelled to attend such an event.

Nope, not in my experience.

It will get better the more you go to them and end up knowning all these peole you don't yet know. Hell, go and see if you like it. If you like it, go to ther next one, if you don't like it, then never go again.

I was going to get on here and complain about how I never get no kinda work dinner party or nuthin, but today at work I notice they got a sign posted up at the time clock, Steak Dinner! Woot! Also a little not thanking us for our hard work and all that. Thing of it is though, it doesnt say WHEN it is, just that sometime this month, as a thank you, we're having a steak dinner!
I dunno seems suspicious to me, I have a feeling that when I ask about it, theyre gonna say oh that was yesterday, didnt you get the memo?
I survived Section 4 and all I got was this lousy sig

No, no - see, they're having a steak dinner, to thank you for your hard work... The management is going out to eat to celebrate your industriousness. They just thought they'd tell you so you'd be inspired to keep up the good work so they can go out to dinner again next month.

My office is so small, I can set my own stuff up. All us field guys (ALL of us) drink beer and complain about work and how we could do a better job of runnin' the joint... Ahhh.. Good times...
