So when your child says they are going to clean their room, then doesn't do it, they weren't lying? Good to know...
Did they intend to clean their room when they said it? If so, then they weren't lying.
My youngest daughter says she's going to clean her room and then gets distracted. I don't think she was lying. She did intend to clean her room. She just got distracted because she's a kid.
So, yeah, if someone intends to do something, and then it turns out that what they said they wanted to do was impractical or unprofitable, so they don't end up doing it, they weren't lying.

That's awesome, Wrecan. My wife does that rainbow star thing with her hand when she makes "One to grow on" comments to my daughter.

I can understand when its an outside force, and then if they came back at the earliest possibility and said "We're sorry, we have to set this aside and do something else, because of reason X, Y, and Z", then sure I can see that. When they say they are going to do something and then a year later you are hearing crickets chirp on the subject, then there is a problem. When they say they are going to do one thing and then it turns out they were doing another thing the entire time (as was the case with the transition to the online CB) then that's a flat out lie. I guess a better analogy would be when your child promises to clean their room that day and you find out they were playing video games the entire time, then you know there's a problem...

It still doesn't mean they're lying.
Obviously, if they said they were giving us certain virtual tools, and then they don't, there was a problem. That doesn't mean the problem is dishonesty. But if you're intent was simply to deflect attention by you inappropriate use of the word "lie"... mission unaccomplished.

Actually no, I was trying to show why I used that word.
Paolo said he was making complimentary tools, he wasn't he was making replacements. I don't know why people have such a problem with realizing that they were lied to.
Saying we are working on tools and then not having anything to show for it is also a lie, if they had come out and said "Because of unforeseen difficulties we have decided not to continue with these tools" that would have been ok, but they kept on like they were still working on them and even took peoples money saying things like "Get in now at the lower prices for a year and you'll save on the tools when they come out." and other similar things...

Actually it doesn't matter if they lied by definition or not because their actions, whatever they are defined as, left people feeling betrayed.

No, it's not a lie. You keep using that word. I don't think it means what you think it means.

It does matter, as long as you keep misusing the word.

So you would be less offended if I used the phrase 'betrayed the fan base'?

I have a feeling your definition of "betrayed" will be as inaccurate as your definition of "lie".

I find it incredibly amusing that people will simultaneously criticize WotC for ignoring our feedback as well as not proceeding as they said they had wanted to.

Obviously we expect them to travel back in time and figure out what we want and already be working on it when we finally tell them what it is.
Duh.
