Hey guys I'm DMing a little home-made campaign this week-end, and i'm helping my players create their characters. One of my players (played some RPGs, and 4e once), wants a Minotaur Barbarian (Whirling slayer). Starting level : 5. I'm limitating content to PHBs, xxx Power, Adeventurer's vault (for his weapon choice), and Dragon Magazines. Excluding the "Heroes of" books, and the "Mark" feats. Here is what I got : Stats : For : 17 +2 +1 Con : 13 +2 Dex : 15 +1 Int : 8 Wis : 10 Cha : 10 HP : 54 (10+1 surges) Defenses : AC : 12 +3 (armor) +1 (magic) + 3 (dex) Fo : 12 +5 (str) +2 (barb) Re : 12 +3 (dex) Wi : 12 +0 Training (3 of them): Acrobatics 20 Athletics 22 Endurance 19 Intimidate 17 Nature 19 F0 : Whirling Slayer (PrP) F* : Opportunity Gore (DM369) F* : Swift Slayer (PrP) F* : Bloodied Ferocity (PHB3) F* : Headsman's Chop (PHB3) F* : Raging Bloodcut (PrP) (ongoing damage on rage) F* : Two-Weapon Fighting (PHB1) F* : Two-Weapon Defense (PHB1) F* : Two-Weapon Threat (PHB2) AW : Whirling Rend (PrP) AW : Pressing Strike (PHB1) E1 : Whirling Frenzy (PrP) D1 : Thunder Hooves Rage (PrP) U2 : (still choosing) E3 : (hesitating between Whriling Step (PrP) and a more focused power, for him to be able to deal GREAT damage to ONE target)... D5 : (don't know) Those are some guidelines, mainly in the Feat part, because He'll be the final judge of what he wants (I'm used to give a little selection of viable options to the players i help create their character). And of course, i'm getting some info from the CharOP Handbook. Any Advice ? (Mainly on the E3, the feats, and the utility powers ^^ ) (And one thing I didn't think about : As minotaurs don't get a special weapon-type feat, which one sould be used ?)

You want Thundering Howl for your E3. It's a double tap on one target and a more damage in a blast 3 (remember the 1d6 is a damage roll so it gets all your static mods (e.g. Iron Armbands of Power).
As to feats, you definitely want an expertise (probably axe expertise) and probably want a superior weapon proficiency (probably weapon proficiency: war axe).

Eh.....
How Op are we looking at? (cause i'm quite a fan of Hybrid Whirling/Ranger. Get's you access to twin strike and some tasty Ranger powers, but it is feat intensive and can be complex to play.)
That being said, how sold is he on a dual weilding minotaur? Cause a Half Orc would make a better whirler, and a Minotaur would make a better rageblood.
And in the AC, are you including the agillity bonus to AC? What weapon(s) is(are) he using?
For U2, Shrug it off is a great pick.
For E3, I'm a BIG fan of Brutal Slam. Solid damge, knock back/prone, and you hit someone else.
Featwise, I'd go with weapon expertise as a primary for level 1, and then weapon focus for level 2 so he can get the most out of his attacks. Save 2 weapon attack/defense for 4 and 6.
And all these options check out for you're campaign. (But that isn't to big of a deal because there hasn't been anything special for the barbarian post essentials except for the Berserker. Which is a lot of awesome fun and is in normal 4e (AEDU) formatt) (*Shameless self promotion of my Handbook*)

There was one power that the barb liked post-essentials (Torrent of Destruction). The Berserker is about as good as the bladesinger (i.e. it can hit striker baselines but does not do what WoTC sell it as).

I don't know exactly how much sold the minotaur part is (will ask tomorrow)... For how much OP we're looking at ... Not "polearm momentum much". I'll give them Magic Weapons, but not those which will give them the exact combos they need (even if they may find some weapons matching vulnerabilities my players can effect their targets).
About Brutal Slam and Weapons, I though about a Axe/Heavy blade orientation, with Headsman's chop, and a focus on putting targets prone. It should work well with the Opportunity Gore (DM369) Feat, that I presented to my player and he seemed OK with the concept of getting prone targets who want to flee from him. (So a Opportunity Gore + Headsman Chop + Proficiency in Waraxe/Bastard Sword, for a 3 feat exemple, and Weapon Focus could come afterward).
The Expertise feat is out from the choices, as it comes from the "Heroes of" series.
I forgot the Barbarian Agility AC bonus, you got it ^^'

I always forget that the Berserker's power list is also a Barbarian list. And..... I sort of agree. Berserker wasn't what it was sold as, but with the right stratedgy its a pretty interesting strik-fender. But I digress because this isn't the place for this discussion.
Are you (to the OP) playing w/errata or without? (Im thinking of Hide Armor Expertise, and Storm of Blades)

Huh, no I'm right.
Weapon Expertise(XXXXX), is a PHB2 feat.
it's "heavy blade Expertise" and such that is Essentials.
And that's what we are here for. ^_^
To help you catch all the important bits. (And to be honest I have spent so much time with the berserker, that it's a LOT of fun getting back to the Barbarian.)

And since he seemed to really like the idea of the charge/knockdown, I'd more try and sell him on the Rageblood Barbarian, who gets the Bonus charge.
