It wasn't nearly so much that 4E raised the fighter up, but rather brought the wizard down many, many notches. I don't think anyone cared that the 4E fighter could do all kinds of cool things, but many people definitely minded them nerfing the bejeebus out of the wizard. I fear it might be a no-win situation for those who want 100% class balance across the board.
I think Smokus that by the standards of balance of some people on these boards you are right. I couldn't play a game that they considered "balanced". If the only options offered were "balanced" by their standards then that would make the game no fun to me.
I do have my own concepts about balance. I'm in favor of it generally. But I'm much more along the lines of equally fun to play. I know fun is subjective but there you have it. For me and my groups and I suspect a lot of other people this standard is sufficient for us in our subjective view of it.
During 3e honestly if I got a game together I'd be far more likely to be hunting for a wizard than I would be hunting for a fighter. I got fighters so easily it was never an issue. If I were writing D&D, I would just go ahead and make the 3e rogue into a subclass of 3e fighter and I'd make the skill system independent of any class. So it's not that I think every single class in 3e is perfect. I do though think the fighter in particular is fine. And so is the vancian wizard.

I'm not really sure about this, but it seems like the "disparity" is part of the "D&D Feel" for some people.
Oh I'm positive you are correct.
There are also those whose attitude is "there is no disparity because we never had that problem in my games"
And there are those who have the attitude of "fighters don't need nice things - I don't care whether there is disparity or not" (this may be a subset of group 1 or group 1 may be a subset of this group)
And never will my wants and desires line up with the wants and desires of these groups and for some of them the inclusion of modules will not solve things because the basic structure of the game they desire will fundamentally not support the type of game I would be interested in playing.

I am very aware of the disparity between fighters and wizards. It absolutely existed, and was a bane to many players...myself not included. I didn't mind the disparity. It was part of the game, and I was okay with it. As for modules, I say the more the merrier. If those modules force that disparity to worse degrees (which they likely will), well...then it's going to be up to the individuals to decide what to spend their money on. If the very core, default rules are running completely against what you are looking for in D&D, then don't expect a module to come along that will fix it. You can hope for it, but don't expect it. For me, the Pathfinder rules run against what I am looking for in a game. I can hope that they will change them to better suit my ideals one day in the future, but I certainly don't expect them to do so.
In fond memory of Mark "Wrecan" Monack.

There has to be as little disparity between them as possible in core. After that, whatever modules they want to use to overpower whichever classes they want are fair game, even if not used by my table.
Actually, I wouldn't mind some module that went with the idea of "To balance everyone, everyone must be hideously overpowered." Be a fun module to run with a few times.
