Thanks, AbdulAlhazred.

The completionist in me wants to get everything...Undecided

Presumably stuff that is now OOP such as AV1 is not going to be reprinted.

Yeah, AV1 has been OOP for quite a while, and is kinda hard to find. You may be able to get a copy online though without too much trouble. Mordenkainen's Magnificent Emporium is pretty much a replacement for AV1 and AV2 anyway, and overlaps them in contents a good bit. Sadly MME was released as a 'physical bookstore only' release, so it too is not so easy to find. In fact I have yet to find a copy of that one...

If you really want to find a comprehensive list go check out the 4e forum on enworld.com. There's a quite comprehensive list of collectible items there in a sticky thread.

Amazon in the UK has MME in stock if this is any use.

Thanks for the enworld info.

Essentials is crap and should have never been created. Wizards was just trying to capture people that didn't like it, rather than sticking to their guns and fleshing out the work they had already done.  Part of why 4e is dead after only 5 or so years.  Get the Real Books you will have a much more intresting and customisable experience.

I have just started a 4e campaign using Essentials. I have the two hero books, rules compendium, monster vault and dms kit, I like 4e and don't feel any particular compulsion at the moment to go to Next (if I want old school I have the 1e books and there are other games out there). I also am starting to collect other bits of 4e such as the Dark Sun and Forgotten Realms books.

Is there any utility in getting any of the other 'core' books like the phbs and dmgs or the additional mms?

I am worried that they will go out of print and then later I will regret not buying them, although the Essentials books are fine for now.

Thanks.

For monsters and adventures I would seriously stick to the later products. The monster math changed quite a bit - especially at high levels - so the content before MM3 is a little shakier and harder to use.

For DM content, most is usable, but really only buy what you will need to play or enjoy reading. If you like reading content and gaming books why not buy some for that purpose?

The content from the PHB1 was updated and released as a series of articles known as the Class Compendium (they were going to reprint the PHb1 in the format of the Essentials books but decided not to).
