I still have a functional 2600... Well, okay, I have a Revenant (2600) - it's a mass of sentient electrical tape and wiring that thinks it's still a 2600 and still plays the games, lol.

Unfortunately, I don't have any games for it. (Oh, sure, I've got all the games for my PS2, but...)

I can remember having one of my cousins in NYC shell out $50 back then for Missile Command because we couldn't find it around here.

I'm also reasonably sure my Colecovision Adam still works and my brother's old Amiga too, though neither have been plugged in in decades.

The C64 wasn't a game console, so I fail to see what it has to do with this discussion.

I had a C64. It was my second computer. My first was a TRS-80.

I had a 128.
But all I did was play games.
And not the cool, good graphics games like they have now, but the crappy 80's games with poor graphics.

However, back in the day it was the

I don't think I understand this post.
A large number of games would indicate a thriving industry, no? Unless they were all cheaply, quickly made cookie cutter crap ones, like that time in the 80s with Atari and ET.
I don't know what "shelflife" means. Being in the stores? Replayability? Waiting to be played, like about a half of my Steam library?
