That's my main gripe with college, actually. They make you pay to take classes you don't want to that'll be less than useless in your planned career. It's stupid and the fact that they choose to hide the obvious money grab behind a (very thin) veil of 'student betterment through varied exposure' is really, really agitating. And it's even worse for me. I mean, I can almost understand it when we're talking about an 18 year old kid what never had a job. Sure, they could possibly discover a career path they never considered when they take some oddball class. Like, maybe. There's probably no way someone is gonna decide to major in Early English Lit if they were considering an engineering path, yanno? Anyhoo, peeps like me are totally boned by this. I have a career in a specified field and I like what I do. To get papers, though, I will have to take all the same BS classes some clueless 18 year old will. Why? What benefit will college Spanish serve me in my technical career? How will some history class benefit me? It's such a waste of time and money. The only saving grace is that Associate Degrees (which also tend to offer certification) don't typically require much of that crap - er, at least not much more than I've already taken. Still, it makes me hate the idea of going back. A lot.
If I wanna be a doctor and I know that, learning about ancient Chinese art will not benefit me. In fact, it will hurt me by distracting me from studies that will actually benefit me in the real world. That's not to say there's no place for those sort of classes, it's only to say if I'm paying to learn doctorhood, I shouldn't be forced to pay for classes that won't do anything positive for me in my path to that goal or when I'm actually in the doctoring business.

huh. looking at citing work and junk and like with the intext citing you put a reference to what work its from and page or location. problem im having is a cited something from a page that was before the official 1st page but the pages before the first are not numbered.
hmmmmmm not sure what to do
Is the page "numbered" by i, ii, etc? I seem to rememeber being able to cite things like that... But hell, I went to college with Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble...
nope its not and thats kinda what i mean by not being numbered. Like i dont know if i should number them like that myself or just leave it blank or what. whoa
Use "n. pag." (no quotes) where you'd normally have page numbers to indicate unnumbered pages.

only way i know of to avoid that stuff is to either go to a trade school or go back to school in some super awesome field and be able to get accepted into a phd or masters program without finishing your bs/ba but that road is probably easier if you've gotten some sort of equivalent degree in the past even if you dont meet general ed requierments at this time.
but yeah its all bs and junk.
as a physics major i can understand needing to take some bio and chem. maybe even an english course or two to have some basic skills for writing papers that i'd likely have to write during my carrier. but like why all the other stuff that takes up more than half of my college carrier? doesn't make sense.
I've been in college since 05 and im sick of it. Been in school nonstop with no break since I was about 5 or something. So yeah like 20 years of my life going to classes day in and day out. Haven't really had anything more than a couple part time jobs. So far I've learned some cool math and science but dont know how to look for a job. A friend and ex class mate came back to town from his masters program thingy in Oregan at UO. He's like one of the best things about their program is all they really do is prep you for getting a job. Like teach you how to interview and blah blah blah. like they teach you some science but a lot of it is about how to get a job. like that's probably way way more useful than the last 7 years i've had of schooling. but aparently schools done teach how to be useful in the work force or even how to become a part of it until you get to a masters or phd. before that you just gotta hope you're doing it right. lol

It stands for "no pagination".

Another option is to use Roman numerals, even if they are not printed on the pages. Which you use depends largely on the school you're in. Many have specific citation requirements. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding them in your school's online database.

dont feel like looking cuz im dong this super last minute. just gonna go with one and doubt he'll care too much. he's a strict teacher but so far this semester hasn't come off as one of those teachers that will dock you a whole letter grade because you had a coma in the wrong spot or the formatting is slightly off. i can understand for something like a senior project or masters/phd type work but most teachers i have seen dont care about some of this stuff for papers in their class. like everyone's paper will formatted a slight bit differently and dont get marked off for it and junk
