So, Menzoberranzan takes the cake. The book is full of beautiful art, but its cover? Typical 4e crap. Chest puffed out anonymous being with weapons.
Next up? Elminster's Forgotten Realms. We've seen the interior art. Same deal. At least the Troll is in the foreground, but he doesn't overshadow PUFFED OUT CHEST GUY WITH WEAPONS.
So have 4e characters all been attacking with their chests? Or just yelling "I'M AN AIRPLANE!!!"?
How about for 5e, a scene with some characters actually looking like they notice each other?
Menzoberranzan is the worst here. Its cover REALLY lies about its contents.

I find art to be very important. But also a question of taste.
I find, for example, Elmore to be absolutely ugly and would never willingly look at his works. Others would likely burn me at the stake for that comment.
All in all, better art is always welcome. Less cheesecake art in particular.

I got into this -hobby- because of art. I think it's kinna important. You...find Elmore ugly? Either you're blind...have terrible taste (  ), or are just being contentious to be contentious.

yeah...Elmore art is very dull, stale and boring...
The thing is that Elmore art lack any kind of energy, impact or motion...it's like the character are just standing there waiting for a photo to be taken. I know that's old-school fantasy artstyle, but that's no longer attractive at all.

LOL. Okay, well, art -is- subjective.
Mexrage, I can't -wait- until you see something you take for granted change. I'll bet the lamentations and caterwauling will be -legendary-. Like the whole 'Im the hero' thing? It's already on the way out...check out your MMO boards and the slowly-increasing numbers of people who are -sick- of it. Things recycle on a timely basis, and what you find so fun now will be derided before you know it. Probably in favor of something incredibly close to the things you're currently deriding.
Did anyone else notice neon returning slowly? Ugh. *shudder*
