Me and my Dm currently are in talks about letting house rule the Draconic Challenge feat with my dragon fear.  For big RP and backstory reasons I wanted to stick with the dragonfear for my dragonborn paladin but so many feats and talents give good synergy to your DS ability when you apply it and I’m basing a lot of my powers and feats around punishment stacking with DS.

He's not against it but we both don’t want to turn dragonfear into something TO GOOD.  So I’m asking for opinions on the matter and what you might think would be a good way to keep the power in line.

THe DM was thinking I could just overlap the whole thing but I counter that a burst 5 is a far wider range then a blast 3 on the breath.  My suggestion was making it a burst 2 or burst 3 effect when I activate the power to apply DS to any within range which seems more in line with what other feats can do or manage for there cost.

To put it in perspective with the other feats I’ve taken so far, I have taken World Serpents Grasp, Bitter Challenge and Commanding Vow.

Simple: if you use Dragonfear in conjunction with Draconic Challenge, have Dragonfear share the same area that Dragonbreath would use: Close Blast 3.  Alternatively, Close Burst 1 to make it affect the same area as a burst.

That's how I would houserule it I was DMing and my player asked me.

I just want to make sure I'm on the same page as you are.  So if I take the feat let dragonfear go off as normal then call a blast 3 area of effect that would fall under the DS as if I had used the breath racial?

Or just make the DS a burst 1 as part of the burst 5 of the dragonfear power?

I'm assuming this is what you’re getting at right now.

Well, I was saying to make Dragonfear actually be a close blast 3 or a close burst 1, *if* you want to use it with Draconic Challenge.  There might be a time when you just want to drop Dragonfear on all enemies within close burst 5 ... in that case, you wouldn't opt to use Draconic Challenge.

Eh my DM isn't so crazy about that idea.  He see's a feat as a bonus you buy for a power or part of your character.  Putting the either or in aspect in seems more like a punishment to him then me taking the feat.  I should of jsut kept my mouth shut and let him give me the burst 5 range for the feat but oh darn my sense of fair play

I think though were going to settle on the fact that its a burst 2 effect around me when I use dragonfear.  I'm surprised no one else though has offered up any other suggestions on how to deal with this heh.

Well it isn't really the right forum for the question.

Got nuked in the forums reorg.  Best place these days is either CharOp, as long as you're very clear about what you want, and prepared to take the heat for it; or What's a DM to DO?, I think.

Harrying your Prey, the Easy Way: A Hunter's Handbook - the first of what will hopefully be many CharOp efforts on my part.
The Blinker - teleport everywhere. An Eladrin Knight/Eldritch Knight.

CB != rules source.
