We sit down with game designer and blogger Tracy Barnett and pick his brain for his D&D Next playtest experiences in this week's Playtester Profile.

I love that this guy doesn't fit the "profile" of a lot of posters on here.
I agree wholeheartedly with his ideas on DM empowerment and control.
I disagree with his assessment of the Caves. I love sandbox open end adventure. Of course the Keep is essential to this part and I just brought it myself from the actual module.
But I appreciate this guys input. It shows we are not two camps but dozens.

I started playing D&D with the Red Box in the 80's and agree with all he said and like the direction they're taking as well. More narrative driven adventure would be welcome in the future too... Now that we've got a few of these under our belt, I'd like to hear from you to find out who in the D&D community you'd like to see profiled. If you have any suggestions for who should be in the next playtester profiles, please let me know in the comments or send me a PM. Also, if there are any specific questions you'd like to see asked send those my way as well.
I would like propose Mand12 to be profiled. He is well involved in the Community and in the Playtesting process and it could serve the Blog well to have him answer questions about his D&D Next Playtest experience so far!
The Blog's Comment section doesn't appear to work so i PMed you Trevor.

I'd be fine with Mand12 being profiled too. theMormegil would be nice as well if he's still around. And he pretty much disagrees with me through and through. I just think he's a nice guy and well spoken.
And I definitely think that WOTC should take a cue from the Pathfinder adventure path series if they want to make money. So I wasn't saying my own views of sandbox are the only way or even the only way I'd ever play. After many years of paths, I just feel I enjoyed the sandboxes more. I do think the DMG should help DM's figure out where they stand preference wise in the D&D world. This would enable them to be good at what they do. And then find groups that want what they offer. There are players who want all variety of things. Just look at these boards.

Thirded... but only if his name is really "Mand12". Okay, even if it isn't, but I'd really like his name to be Mand12... and for him to be an android.... a D&D playing android... that rides a stegosaurus.
fridays tend to make me silly.

Seriously. Fooling around with the Red Box, but not actually playing D&D until 3e and then not even DMing unitl 6 years later, doesn't seems to mirror the profile of any of the gamers I know, with the exception of new/newer gamers of course. He certainly doesn't represent me, my group or any of the other groups I know.

He likes how much is left open to the DM but then disliked the Caves of Chaos because there wasn't enough predefined backstory?
I understand that those two things are not directly related, but that just seems a little weird.
I like having the game being a little more open and DM controlled but I also like that the adventure they chose was basically just a list of monsters with some suggestions on how they interact and a map of where you can locate them. You can do whatever you want with that.
What's the matter, you dissentious rogues, That rubbing the poor itch of your opinion Make yourselves scabs?
