Still playing and enjoying, might have to take a break and do some mass downloads in the near future but I have no interest in Next and I find Pathfinder to be incredibly tedious and not fun.

Frankly, I don't understand why WOTC have to make new editions. Why can't they keep one edition, and one edition only? If players don't like the rules, they can alter them, no big deal. I'll stick with 4e. I am not wasting money on yet another edition.

Because they have to keep making money.

Seriously, though, you should check out the PbP Haven.  You might also like Real Adventures, IF you're cool.

Still running 4e.

Just played in a 3.54 one-shot game, then ran my regular 4e game both yesterday night (weekly Friday night 4e).

I'll likely play DDN/5e if I can find a group that wants to play it.  My 4e group doesn't seem to like it at this point.

But I play these games for different reasons.  I had a lot of fun playing the 3.5e game, and whether it was because of the different rules that I hadn't played in a while, or that I was a Player instead of DM, or that it was face-to-face instead of my normal online GameTable 4e games, I really enjoyed myself in a way I wasn't expecting that evening.

I really enjoy my 4e game as well, though.  And I've been reading about early D&D recently (specifically, on Steve Winter's blog), and the whole concept of Time matters a LOT (because of out of combat 10 minute turns, wandering monster tables, having to camp outside of dungeons, monsters returning when you reenter dungeons, etc) is something that really interests me.  I may go ahead and pick up the 1e Rulebooks that were rereleased recently.

I think I just enjoy roleplaying, and enjoy the myriad of different forms of it. :D

Well, making more money, yes, but they would have also had to identify a market for it. People willing to buy it.

When WotC took over D&D from TSR, they identified a market. People wanted to buy a new edition of D&D. Hence, 3.0. 3.5 came out a few years later, once they identified the market of people who would re-buy the game to improve it. 4e came out when WotC identified that people were getting sick of 3e. I know I was.

I've replaced the previous Edition Warring line in my sig with this one, because honestly, everybody needs to work together to make the D&D they like without trampling on somebody else's D&D.

Nope. Stopped playing 4e about a year ago and didnt play any table top rpgs till about june this year.

Started playing Pathinfinder and fell in love with the world of Golarion, the system, the quailty and variety of the books, (writting and art)  and the organized play (Pathfinder Society). Sold all me 4e books to get Pazio ones.

I have played the playtest for next and did enjoy it quite a bit, but Pazio has set the bar pretty high =) (for me , at least).

Well, from the very beginning of discussions of Next - months before it was initially announced - it looked to a lot of us that the intent was to systematically throw away everything about 4E that we thought was an improvement over prior editions, and bring back the inferior stuff it replaced.

Nothing I've seen has changed that impression - in my mind anyway.

And some of us thought there were quite a number of such improvements.

I've run games in several editions and several other game systems, but I'll never run a game again in any D&D prior to 4E and I'll probably never run a game in any D&D Zombie Edition that brings back from the grave a bunch of stuff that I was happy to see die.

(The chances are very slightly improved if I can get all the books as .epub ebooks.)

And why on earth would i quit playing 4e just because a new edition is coming out? omg thats the same thing that killed swg. "HEY GUYS THIS THING IS OFFICALLY ENDING SO WE SHOULD ALL JUST PACK UP OUR BAGS AND LEAVE!" what kind of logic is that? its silly. i mean 4e is not even exactly "ending", you can still play it if you want to. personally im gonna do what i did with 3.5 and stick around until 5e shoves itself in my face again, same way 4e got me hooked. I think il enjoy it a lot more that way then scurrying to the next "big" thing like some mindless rodent because its "new."

(Quotes screwed up on the next one, won't give the poster's name. It's in the Best Lines thread on the D&D forum)

First, an experience from a game I played in a few years back. Our DM didn't like 3.5 as a whole but liked parts of it. So he hands us a big ass rules packet for his modified FR campaign, complete with quotes from important NPC's on the front. I can't remember most of the HRs, just that some how gods like Cyric and Bhaal existed at the same time, despite the obvious problems there. In the end the game became a problem more because of the railroading than the HRs, but it ended with this classic line, after our ranger tried to disarm the strange woman following us WITH HIS BOW: DM: You just killed (insert random noble sounding name here) JP: Was she important? Jack: Dude, she's quoted on the front of the rules packet!

When the shuttle landed, I had no less than 13 JEDI MASTERS step off the shuttle. The PCs were slack-jawed. After the meetup with Bastila (as she's carrying Revan's body), only TWO jedi masters remained with her. Let me tell you, the player whining about not getting to fight Revan himself shut up pretty quickly when he saw that.

yeah thats what happened. but half a year before it offically ended they came out with an announcment saying it was going to end. In the months after that annoucment my server suffered a massive drop in the number of active players. Our population pre annoucement had been well over 100 active players. that dropped to less then 40 in the following months. i went to starsider for the last month of the game and omg. It had once hosted over 500 players. you couldnt even go to mos eisly because it was so packed, the lag there was terriable. by the time i showed up we might have been lucky to break 200 players, thats with the refugees from the other servers. my point is that when people think somthing is going to end they panic and make a dash for the nearest exit. thats what i dont want to see with 4e. i know its not a video game like swg but i have a sneak suscipion thats exactly whats going to happen. but im getting off topic so yeah. (plz admin gods dont strike me down)
