I was reading through my PHB1 a few hours ago, intending to make a character out of sheer boredom. The character I wanted to make was a Dwarf wizard named Thorgrim. However, the book said play a dwarf if you want to be a member of a race that favors the paladin, cleric, and fighter classes.
Does this mean that dwarves cannot be rangers, wizards, rogues, and whatever else? Or is that just recommended classes?
That is just there to suggest to new players some classes that each Race is especially suited for. For example, Dwarves have good stats for Clerics but that doesn;t mean they can't be Wizards. It's basically an idea for quickstart characters.
That's what I was thinking, but I wanted to make sure. Thank you for the help.
Yeah, that's basically a shorthand for 'your stats line up well with these classes'. It doesn't include any classes created after the initial PHB, though.
I actually changed my mind. I decided I had too many wizards, so I opted for a dwarf cleric instead. Now, I just need a game for him.
