Some resource wasting traps. Stuffed
Show
I once created an ranger/necromancer NPC. He left stuffed orcs around his mansion. One orc absorbed a dozen arrows. Another orc contained a rats nest. Another orc contained Crawling Claws. Gargoyle statue
Show
If a party suffers losses from a gargoyle they may over-react when they see a gargoyle statue later on. I ran a basic D+D game where a gargoyle killed about half the party. Later the party unloaded arrows , acid flasks , holy water and etc. , then the dwarf closed in and shattered the gargoyle . Gave them a few XP and the party had to retreat . Could a stuffed kobolds head that looks like its peering around a corner draw fire? Do kobolds stuff their heros? Just a few thoughts.

The old crackle foot trap could have caltrops instead of twigs , they could be swept up at the begining of the kobold work day? Now where copper mines are 100 times more common than gold mines , kobolds decide to reduce attacks against themselves by being copper miners? Even Thorin Oakenshield of Hobbit fame spent years as a coal and iron miner. A 100 pound statue made of copper would be worth 15 to 20 GP ,is this a trap for the greedy? A party that carried off five statues would only get about 50 GP ? So this would be like the loss leaders that some stores put near the doors.

Pets and guard critters are good. There is a published adventure called The Hero Snare and an adventure called Tallow's Deep featuring a nasty goblin lair in Dungeon #18 that can both be looted for ideas. Take advantage of illusions; false walls, floors, and ceilings can hide all sorts of things - like archers aware of the illusion. Poison - just the paralytic kind (for fresher meals, ransom, and/or sacrifice). Cheers!

Now if you had Savage Species you could use the Tauric template to make tougher Kobolds. Scorpians , Rats, Lizards , War or Riding dog , Centipede , Spider , And even Crab from Stormwrack. I like to use both Small and Medium scorpians to make what I call Tlincalli Kobolds . These can function in swamps ,deserts and jungles as well as dungeons to make the Kobolds even nastier. I especiaaly love the two claw attacks and the poisoned stinger.

Kobold mechs? I was watching a cartoon called Young Justice. It featured Krolatarians who looked like kobolds and had human suits to allow them to infiltrate human society. Suppose a kobold sorceror created an Animates Suits spell similar to an Animate Object spell? A sorceror could build a large size plate armor suit and battle axe? Most battles last under 10 rounds and this would give kobolds something like japanese Mech.

How about a trap consisting of a pit with a copper rope that can hold the weight of a fully-loaded human in plate, but anyone that weighs more than a kobold (very probably no character) gets hit with a Shocking Grasp spell when they attempt to swing across?
