I suppose it only really matters in that when transferring our characters from 2nd to 3rd, my group joked that we were wealthy beyond measure, due to all the electrum we had on hand.
Affect on play? Zero.
Nostalgia element? Big thumbs up.

For a supposedly "rarer" coin, a lot of the monsters in the Caves of Chaos sure do carry electrum pieces.

If the indentify will be back with the 100 Gp pearl spell component i want to see the pearl become a standard payment method.
any pearl no matter how mis shapen or small would be apraised as being woth 100GP so it can be used as spell component.

Now I need to look through the playtest pack again. Does that mean there are 200 copper in a gold or 100? Now I'm so confused...

Yeah, it's nice to see some variety again. Hopefully we can see more alternate currency thrown in, like the jade and the shells that Exalted uses to mirror China and the pacific islands in real life. 100. The main progression is still 100c=10s=1g. If gold is your fantasy dollar, electrum is a half-dollar, and plats are a tenner. Copper and silver are pennies and dimes, of course.
