Just a few comments:

  • One of the most compelling arguments for using a hand crossbow is the rogue feat Two-Fisted Shooter, which gives you a free off-hand RBA when you crit. Without this, the hand crossbow is a strictly inferior (though cool) weapon. Ruthless Hunter brings it up to snuff, true, but also pairs very nicely with this if you can make room for it. Drow Fighting Style doesn't do very much given how far out of range you prefer to be anyway.

So drop drow fighting and pick up multiclass rogue (sneak in shadows) and two fisted shooter. sorry for asking so many questions, and thanks for the good insite and suggestions.

Yes. I would drop Drow Fighting Style and the Disrupting Shot feats (because Disruptive Strike is better than Disruptive Shot anyway) and take Sneak of Shadows and Two-Fisted Shooter.

This frees up your minor actions as well, since before you didnt have load free. You only need one hand-crossbow (in your off-hand), which you can make all attacks with, and you can still hold a dagger in your primary hand if theres a cheap defensive enchant you want.

I approve of the help you all have given this poster in my absence. I'm chiming in to add a few things:
Curseborn is fantastic, and a very fine choice. Much more controller oomph than Ocular Adept.

You should start out with 18/18 DEX/WIS, not 16/20, so that you're more accurate with your Ranger powers. You don't ever want to miss with Confounding Arrows or Disruptive Strike, and you want decent AC as well.

Oh, and at level 17 you should have the following powers and feats:

AT-WILL
R1 Clever Shot
S1 Biting Swarm

ENCOUNTER
R3 Disruptive Strike <-- MUST HAVE!
S7 Feyjump Shot <-- MUST HAVE!
CB11 Accursed Flames
R17 Entrapping Arrows

DAILY
S5 Ensnaring Shot
R5 Spitting Cobra Stance
R15 Confounding Arrows

UTILITY
R2 Invigorating Stride <-- MUST HAVE!
N6 Natural Terrain Understanding, if your campaign is often in wilderness, but the Drow Levitation utility is good too
S10 Feywild Jaunt <-- MUST HAVE!
R16 Howling Winds OR S16 Land's Passage

FEATS
1 Archery Mastery
2 Crossbow Expertise
4 Improved Initiative
6 Cunning Stalker/Vicious Advantage/Distant Advantage (remember,
8 Superior Will
10 Improved Defenses
11 Eyedark Strike <-- MUST HAVE!
12 Two-Fisted Shooter
14 Psychic Lock (IF you can get a Mindiron Hand Crossbow, which I highly recommend)
16 Master of Fire and Darkness? Whatever you want here I guess.

You don't, that's what I get for multi-tasking! :P

Personally, I would skip MC Rogue entirely and use a superior crossbow, but if you want the hand crossbow/dagger for flavor reasons, drop Superior Will for the Cunning Sneak MC, and try to get a Circlet of Arkhosia.

The parenthetical note after the Combat Advantage feat was just to say that there are several different feats to help you get CA at range, and that you should only get one, but that which one you get will depend on how your party plays. My favorite is Hidden Sniper, coupled with Armor of Dark Deeds.

Hidden Sniper +Armor of Dark Deeds, fantastic combo, but requires you can make an attack with combat advantage to activate the Armor's property. An easy way for a drow to do this in the first round is Cloud of Darkness. Eyedark will allow you to make an attack with CA in the second round (or some subsequent round), and is powerful control. Weigh your options and know your party (specifically, how fast can your party manufacture CA for you?).

I personally love Cunning Sneak, easy hide (especially with Dark Deeds).

Superior Crossbow begs the speed loader feat, doesn't it?

Good luck j.
