Great, that's what I thought Plaguescarred, thank you. Part of the issue is there's a few optional resting/healing rules options now that don't use the Hit Dice mechanic, including the one mentioned in this week's Legends and Lore column -- and there's no modification to the Healer's Kit (which has Hit Dice-based, rest-based healing properties) to match those optional rules. So I'll just ignore or make something simple up for that Healer's Kit quality for now Thanks again!

I have a question about the Elven Chain magic item. Other magic armor and weapon descriptions explicitely say what mundane equipment they derive their stats from, but Elven Chain's description is a bit more ambiguous. Do I just use the mundane chainmail to derive its stats?

A395: Yes, I would say Elven Chain (Magic Items, p10) would use the values given for Chain Mail as per p3 of Equipment. The only real clue I could find to support that is the line "Elven chain is exceptionally fine and light mithral chainmail," but it goes on to say that "You can wear this mithral chain regardless of your armor proficiencies. In addition, if wearing armor normally prevents you from casting spells, you can cast spells while wearing this armor," which is the main "magical" benefit. However, it would probably have the "Elven Creator" attribute from p7, as well, based on the descriptive text.

A395: An Elven Chain is derived from a Mithral Shirt i'd say, since as a light armor it doesn't constraint movement while a Chainmail as heavy armor is quite movement constraining (-5 feet, no Dex mod). Also the Mithral Shift is said to be light enought to be worn under normal clothing.
Something odd with the Elven Chain benefit, since now anyone can wear any armor regarless of proficiency, just that you suffer consequence if not proficient. It should instead say you can wear this armor without disadvantage regardless of proficiency.

@Plaguescarred: Maybe Elven Chain could be either a type of Mithral Shirt or a Chainmail? The description specifically says "chainmail" twice, which is why I didn't think of a shirt.
And I agree with you about it not causing disadvantage. Though it isn't spelled out in the property section, I had assumed that's what it meant.

A396: Probably because that is the old D&D website, and it is not updated by WotC anymore.

Q397: What's the duration on rope trick? It says the entrance lasts 1 hour (flat), but is this the total duration of the spell? If this is the case, it looks like the spell is no longer intended for a full nights sleep anymore, but more of an emergency hiding spot.

Q398: So if the entrance disappears after 1 hour, what happens to the space itself? Does it vanish, ejecting everyone inside into the nearest available spaces, or does it leave them trapped inside until the wizard casts rope trick again? (Personally, I think that last one could be interesting, although it could also get abused as a way to get a long rest.)
