So the book is out, so thus discussion can't go into the "future releases" forum. ANYWAYS!
I would like to know for those who got the book what you think of it. Reviews would be lovely.
I really REALLY want to see all thats offered for kobolds besides just what we saw in the excerpt (unless that was everything). Also, with all 3 races shown being small, is there any feats needing small size required in the book?

I got this a couple of days ago primarily for the content relevant to DMs, so I have to admit I didn't look at the player stuff in too much detail. I really like the presentation and the thought that has gone into the product.
There are quite a few nice ideas for making dungeons and styles of dungeons. However, I would have liked to have seen more detail in there. I would say it's great for novice DMs, but as someone with some experience making dungeons, I was hoping for some more dungeon elements I could add to give more interest to my dungeonsm, perhaps some puzzles or RP ideas.
There's a section of types of monsters found in dungeons, and a section giving background on some classic dungeons (ravenloft, temple of elemental evil etc..) which is nice but hardly essential reading.
So I'm a little disappointed with the DM parts of the book. However, a good 2/3 of the book is relating to players, which as I mentioned, I haven't really looked at.

My initial review is positive. I like the book and contents. I have yet to sit down for a comprehensive perusal.
One opening comment of a small (miniscule really) negative critique is that while they are adding small captions to pictures and often giving names to characters, none of the kobold or goblin images are named characters. Do they not deserve for someone to offer a name to those races of adventurers? In fact, the first piece of goblin adventurer art has the goblin looking away into the background rather than providing a face to the character as she gets toe-to-toe with a hook horror. I'm glad these two races were included particularly since I use them in my homebrew setting as tolerated and accepted cultures of the overall society. So, I'm a bit sad that little of the art was dedicated to those two races (less to goblin than to kobold).

It looks fairly meh to me. Read quickly through tyhe player options yesterday, wasn't wildly impressed. Old design mistakes coming out to the fore, fairly unimpressive and uninteresting themes and powers. I doubt I'll be buying it.

the themes are just god awful imo. after looking at the powers in the compendium i am having second thoughts on buying this. the only power i like is the seeker encounter Spoiler:
Show
Short Shot Onslaught
Your time spent underground has forced you to adapt to skirmishing in close quarters.
Encounter Primal, Weapon Standard Action Close burst 3
Target: One, two, or three creatures in the burst
Attack: Wisdom vs. AC
Hit: 1[W] + Wisdom modifier damage.
Effect: After all of this power’s attacks are resolved, you can use a free action to shift up to 2 squares for each attack that hit. You ignore difficult terrain during this movement i cant comment on the rest of it

Well, the best parts are of course the ones you worked on.
Here are the PHB essentia, in my opinion: - Three Basic Rules (p 11)
- Power Types and Usage (p 54)
- Skills (p178-179)
- Feats (p 192)
- Rest and Recovery (p 263)
- All of Chapter 9 [Combat] (p 264-295)
A player needs to read the sections for building his or her character -- race, class, powers, feats, equipment, etc. But those are PC-specific. The above list is for everyone, regardless of the race or class or build or concept they are playing.

bloodsworn had a nice punisher/demon hunter from diablo feel to it for any kind of a class. I'm diggining that theme and definitely using it for my encounters character for this season.

The races are pretty decent. Nice to have small options for strength and wisdom stats finally. It would be better if they had the support that older races got.
Most of the themes are pretty bad either super situational or just not very good, except for underdark outcast and bloodsworn. A few are so close to being good, but fail at math its painful.
As spacedinvader says above WOTC doesn't learn from its math mistakes and is still repeating them years later. Who is going to take Underdark envoy for instance? You need to be charisma primary and ok with attacking at range for the encounter power to work, which eliminates the vast majority of PCs. And even if you do that it still doesn't scale right since there is no weapon or implement keyword so no expertise bonus. As is only ranged bards going for lots of social skills are the only ones who should even look at it and even they have better options.
