Will this contain information that helps people optimzie Assassins as Assassins? Or will it be a guide on how to make your Assassin function like a different class (e.g. Tsuyo's Thief handbook)?

It does require one (1) off-class item to make the Assassin work, which the handbook will cover (I don't wanna spoil other than to say this handbook requires using the RAW and using it well but otherwise is pure Assassin). Otherwise it's a true blue Assassin.

Mountain Cleave Rule: You can have any sort of fun, including broken, silly fun, so long as I get to have that fun too (e. g., if you can warp reality with your spells, I can cleave mountains with my blade).

It'll be using the Assassin's core mechanics to do the Assassin's job. Workable applications of the mechanics range from nigh-stereotypical to hilariously anti-thematic.

If you don't have encounter powers, the assassin isn't viable sans chargespam, if that helps any. That's seriously all the strategy there is.

Your Exec charger may improve slightly based on advice here, but they aren't really going to be something I pay attention to.

I regret only that the bulk of this probably won't be together in time for me to base a character on it for the next game I'm playing in (which starts thisafternoon).

While I'm not always a fan of the guide writer's ... curmugeonly persona, I have great respect for Erachima's high system mastery and quality optimization advice.  I've always loved this class and lamented its poor performance - if any guide will provide a way to make this class work, it's this one.  So, awesome.  I can't wait to read more.

This will be perfect for my new player who's fascinated by the flavor of assassins but doesn't quite get the mechanics. I've always avoided the class as overly complicated and underpowered, so seeing it with fresh eyes should help me help him. And I second the sentiment that erachima, while not always subtle or patient, is a fountain of useful information and high system mastery. I quite look forward to seeing this guide fully fleshed out.
