Are you kidding me Wizards? We get a game day 2012 and it isn't even a d&d adventure but is just an opportunity to play the new d&d skirmish game in July. I wanted to run a game day for my encounters players or even be allowed to play a four hour game instead of running one. I ask a big WHY? Anyone know why they chose what they did.

I don't see a problem here.
To get people to buy their products
Or here.
OD&D, 1E and 2E challenged the player. 3E challenged the character, not the player. Now 4E takes it a step further by challenging a GROUP OF PLAYERS to work together as a TEAM. That's why I love 4E.

I think the OP's complaint centers around calling it a "D&D Game Day", which has come to be associated with D&D the RPG, not a D&D-based miniatures skirmish game. It feels like a bit of a bait-and-switch.

I think they had it right on the front page for a bit, Plague, but here's one: www.wizards.com/DnD/Event.aspx?x=dnd/4ne...
INSIDE SCOOP GAMERS: In the new version of D&D, it will no longer be "Edition Wars." It will be "Edition Lair Assault." - dungeonbastard

The ad tells me that it is " Dungeon Command Game Day" in the very first line. Although it does say " D&D Game Day" in line two, this is the header of a paragraph that explicitly tells me that this event is about the Dungeon Command skirmish game. I can understand the OP being frustrated that there is not a D&D RPG game on Dungeon Command Game Day (in the same way I am frustrated that my day-game mini-plan for the Durham Bulls does not include any games against the Indianapolis Indians this year), I would consider it a frustration with the vicissitudes of life, and not one that warrants direction toward WotC. The Ad on the official Game Day announcement page: Dungeon Command Game Day: July 21, 2012 D&D Game Day is a one-day event spotlighting a key release -- and this year, the event celebrates the first Dungeon Command Skirmish packs: Heart of Cormyr and Sting of Lolth. Designed for two or more players, this head-to-head skirmish game will have strategists assembling war bands, taking to the battlefield of their choice, and attempting to crush the enemy!
What Do I Need to Play? There's nothing you'll need to bring; participating stores will have a full copy of both Heart of Cormyr and Sting of Lolth on hand for you to try. Plus, players will receive an alternate-paint miniature simply for attending this great event (while supplies last)!
Use the Store & Event Locator to find a Game Day location near you. If you’re an organizer at a Core level or above WPN store, click here.
Tell Me More! For more information on Game Day specifics, to discuss your event, or to leave feedback, visit the Official D&D Community Group on the Wizards Community site.
Here are the PHB essentia, in my opinion: - Three Basic Rules (p 11)
- Power Types and Usage (p 54)
- Skills (p178-179)
- Feats (p 192)
- Rest and Recovery (p 263)
- All of Chapter 9 [Combat] (p 264-295)
A player needs to read the sections for building his or her character -- race, class, powers, feats, equipment, etc. But those are PC-specific. The above list is for everyone, regardless of the race or class or build or concept they are playing.

Hola, > a frustration with the vicissitudes of life, and not one that warrants direction toward WotC.I am not sure I agree. > D&D Game Day is a one-day event spotlighting a key release -- > and this year, the event celebrates the first Dungeon Command Skirmish packs If we were celebrating the 'key release' of Avacyn Restored I would feel much the same way. When we spent a year with Gamma World releases cluttering the D&D release schedule, I felt much the same way. I think that there is a reasonable expectation that a D&D Game Day will include some actual D&D. I do not think that is very hard to understand. Additionally, I think using the official WotC Formus to express this, to point out that I am very interested in D&D Game Days in general & ANYTHING related to Mini's in particular is warranted, and at some level may actually be helpful to remind our Hosts that we are still here and eagerly looking for content to share and celebrate during Game Days--at CONS, at Anniversaries, at Releases, at just about any excuse to gather with new friends and roll for inititive! > The ad tells me that it is "Dungeon Command Game Day"
The link says Worldwide D&D Game Day and from the home page Events > D&D Game Day. No mention of Command Game or Skirmish Game or whatever the game is Officially called at this point. It says D&D and I think it is reasonable to expect that anything announced in these sections would include actually playing D&D and not some other game.
