Nothing condescending about it, Avenger features are just commonly misunderstood.

The Pursuit Avenger's censure is effectively a mark that forces your oath target to attack you. Critting a bunch also tends to draw heat. As a result, durability-enhancing features are wonderful for them.

The Isolation Avenger is terrible and therefore not really relevant here, though back when they were playable they also very much needed DR to survive the damage they would take to rack up their damage bonuses.

Why is hybrid ranger/avenger not discussed. Cause you get oath and quarry and access to minor attacks, blade cascade, and cruel cage of steel

Because you don't get Oath on any of the ranger attacks.

Half-elf Avenger with Eldritch Strike and Student of Caiphon?

Crit on 19+, 4 rolls: 34.39%
Crit on 18+, 2 rolls: 27.75%

Avenger MC Fighter: Power swap for Martial Supremacy, and spam an MBA of your choice (Overwhelming Strike comes to mind).  19+ crit range can come from multiple places, but since Martial Supremacy is as high level as it is, the Avenger Feat should suffice.

You could even combine the ideas:
Half-Elf Avenger with Eldritch Strike, Student of Caiphon, MC Fighter, White Lotus Master Reposte

You should be able to get "Crit on 18+, 4 rolls" by forcing a Reposte Attack most of the time (for discussion of frequency, see community.wizards.com/go/thread/view/758...).  With the Fighter MC, you could pick up Polearm Momentum and a Rending Gouge (or two Flails, Flail Expertise, and Two-Weapon Openning).  I would expect that you would average almost one critical/round with your at-will.  (Math:  Expected Crits/Round = 2*(0.2775 + 0.2775^2) = 0.71 crits/round.)

Depending on your interpretation of Rending Weapon (is the MBA you get from rending a "free action"?), you could work both Two Weapon Opening AND Rending weapons into the character (assuming you had a different way of getting your opponent prone or were OK with the "follow" techniques listed in the above thread), but this is more theoretical than practical (Math: Expected Crits/Round = 2*(0.2775 + (.2775)^2 + (.2775)*LIM(x=1->inf)(SUM(.2775^x)) ~0.82 crits/round at will)

Unfortunately, in order to do so you have to either tank Dexterity (and not have great AC) or Wisdom (and not use encounter powers).  This sucks even harder than it does for a Twin Striking Avenger/Fighter, since with them at least you can use your Strength for Fighter powers (albiet at great feat cost).

Yep.  It frequently is.
Harrying your Prey, the Easy Way: A Hunter's Handbook - the first of what will hopefully be many CharOp efforts on my part.
The Blinker - teleport everywhere. An Eladrin Knight/Eldritch Knight.

CB != rules source.

How are you getting crits on 18+ as a fighter?

Practical gameplay runs by neither RAW or RAI, but rather "A Compromise Between The Gist Of The Rule As I Recall Getting The Impression Of It That One Time I Read It And What Jerry Says He Remembers, Whatever, We'll Look It Up Later If Any Of Us Still Give A Damn." Erachima

Maybe power swapping for cascade and possibly even nonchalant collapse for headsmans chop

Whoops, I meant Half-Elf Avenger, MC Fighter.  I'll edit the original post.

Er, I knew that from prior discussions.  Still not clear on how you're getting 18+ crits. (more relevantly, when you're not an Avenger/Warlock because you're an Avenger/Fighter)
