If your DM is counting Close attacks as Melee (which are clearly and unambiguously different types of attacks if either of you would read the rules), then you are *not* running the character by the rules of the game.
Another day, another three or four entries to my Ignore List.

With Salla on this. Cuts does look legal on the sheet but from everything you described isn't being played legally due to your DM bending how keywords are interpreted (in fact making a fluff/flavor opinion affect rules interpreation). If its not on the sheet/card then it doesn't work that way in 4e. Thus it if a power is close burst without the melee keyword then it doesn't get to piggyback/activate abilities keyed off by the melee keyword.
For example my Avenger's current implement is actually his weapon (Weapon of Oaths fulfilled), but when I use implement powers with that weapon even if the enemy is in melee range it doesn't make the attack have the melee keyword.

Not true. I have yet to accept Hellsworn Blessing. I have not played it illegal since I knew about it.
I said how the DM is ruling it. I said how I am playing him.
I am playing him legal. He has his reasons and I have mine. We get along great so it's not an issue. There are other pcs who suit the Hellsworn Blessing well.

Concisely: I want a system where players don't have to pick between mechanics and roleplaying. I hope 5E fails asap so a better system can be made asap.
