Dungeon 200
Hall of the Fire Giant King
By Christopher Perkins

This adventure is inspired by Gary Gygax’s classic module but takes advantage of the latest Dungeons & Dragons rules. “Hall of the Fire Giant King” can be run as a stand-alone adventure, or you can play it as the conclusion of a four-part series that includes “Steading of the Hill Giant Chief ” (Dungeon 197), “Warrens of the Stone Giant Thane” (Dungeon 198), and “Glacial Rift of the Frost Giant Jarl” (Dungeon 199).

Talk about this article here.

Absolutely amazing, Chris Perkins definitely saved the best for last. This is exactly the sort of paragon tier adventure I've been looking for: a brutal dungeon crawl filled with fire and violence. To top it off, there's great story, interesting NPC's to befriend or kill, fantastic art, and glorious maps (untagged versions available in the map gallery, hooray!). Thank you Chris Perkins for making this adventure, and Dungeon #200, one for the ages. I don't know what else is being planned for the remainder of 4e, but I hope it can live up to the standards set by this series of adventures.

A word of warning for new DM's, this adventure will be very challenging and the PC's can get in over their heads very quickly. I would be very reluctant to run this adventure with a group of players new to 4e. Watch the timing and pacing, many of the iconic battles in this adventure will take a couple of hours to run properly. The big battle against the king would take my very experienced group about 3 hours from start to finish. That's not a bad thing (we love a big epic fight), but it's something to keep in mind when you're planning your sessions. Extended rests are going to be an issue, plan how you're going to handle it before you start.

The current edition is BECMI, the most popular form of Basic D&D and the adventure is the classic Red Box quest to kill Bargle the evil magic user. Check it out, learn about the games roots, and enjoy the story as it unfolds.

Yeah thats a great adventure and a huge monster (62 pages) with a solid local-based dungeon, nice artwork and great maps. This is a brilliant adaptation of the original adventures and a couple new monsters got a treatement.

Personally, for me this piece alone is worth this month 7$ my sub charges IMHO as it is a great piece, even just for the read.

I love you Chris

“Deliver King Snurre’s Head”

My first thought was how much does the “Head” weigh?

An adult human cadaver head cut off around vertebra C3, with no hair, weighs on average somewhere between 4.5 and 5 kg, typically constituting around 8% of the body mass; i. e. an adult human head weighs approximately between 8 and 12 pounds.

From the “d20 SRD”:  Some fire giants have bright orange hair.  An adult male is 12 feet tall, has a chest that measures 9 feet around, and weighs about 7,000 pounds.  Females are slightly shorter and lighter.  Fire giants can live to be 350 years old.

Thus King Snurre’s massive head weighs 560lbs.  This should make escaping fun!

Originally I was going to do just the hill giant adventures...then i noticed how awesome the stone giant adventure one was, and figured i'd just do the 2...then i saw Kvaltgar in the frost giant adventure and just had to include that....now I see a giant hurling anvils and the party getting a flying tower thing...

Curse you wotc! making me want to use your adventures! Tongue Out

The flying tower is the best adventure reward EVER. That just instantly made it into my almost epic main campaign, assuming of course the PC's can earn it. I'm aiming to hit them hard this week, potential TPK unless they can pull off something amazing. Sigh, they usually do...

I really hope WoTC has something awesome to pack in dungeon after this, cause this series is the only thing I look forward to with my subscription anymore.

Sounds like a discussion I had Saturday about the weight of a frost giant skull with the earlier adventure... although it focussed more on size than actual weight. PCs with a Strength of 20+ can carry a lot

Spoiler: Show

It had to do with the ghost who could not leave his remains, how much was needed and whether or not they could carry the skeleton along for some additional domination support. Of course, I could simply have said it would not work, but since I run it as a side track and the goal is not to kill the jarl, they wanted to use to avoid some fights and threaten the forst giants to give what they are there for as well as the one the ghost wants dead.

I'd also like to thank WoTC for doing the proper maps for this adventure in the images release. Though I hope you go back and revise the frost giant ones.
