FYI -- It is now no longer possible to use the adventure tools classic unless you already have it. I recently got a new computer, and downloaded it, and found that it won't function because it requires at least one update, and it is no longer possible to update it. I installed it on a different computer about three weeks ago and was able to do it, so this must have happened in the last two weeks. For reasons that defy logic, it is still available for download ( wizards.com/dnd/Tool.aspx?x=dnd/4new/too...). I asked customer service why this is still available for download even though it isn't possible to use the downloaded file, and the only answer I received was that they would pass on my "suggestion" to someone. I feel like this is an important thing to observe, because the old monster builder was useful, and the new monster builder is useless, because it is impossible to copy and paste. So the value of your DDI subscription decreased over the last two weeks, without any notice or explanation (and indeed the pretension that nothing is amiss signified by the continued ability to download the unusable application). That's sad to hear. I cancelled my subscription long ago when they first released those online turds, and now I'm down to my last PC with the tools installed. In fact, I'm about to create and print some custom monsters... try that online!

I just did, 5 in fact. All 100% custom high paragon monsters. Very complex too. The online MB has been updated to the point where it is better than offline one with one single exception: no way to export to RTF.
I feel your pain though, the old MB should be kept around for subscribers to DL. It's been heavily pirated so putting a bugged version on their site makes no sense.

The current edition is BECMI, the most popular form of Basic D&D and the adventure is the classic Red Box quest to kill Bargle the evil magic user. Check it out, learn about the games roots, and enjoy the story as it unfolds.

So you can actually do more than rename powers and slide the level up and down? [rant] It doesn't matter anyway, since I will never subscribe again just on principle. The bait and switch act they pulled with the original Adventure Tools suite will forever sour my opinion of WotC's "online effort". I paid month after month along with many others on the premise of a complete, offline set of tools to streamline the game. I even had two of them that worked pretty well! All of this was trumped by money grubbing corporate lawyer types, who squashed what worked and scrapped it for what was profitable... usefulness be damned! Good bye, and good riddence. And to everyone still paying, and hoping you get future support?! Moneymouth laughs at you. I love DnD, I hate WotC. Thankfully, there are still ways to play. We play twice a week, for free! [/rant]

I don't know if you care, but the new Monster Builder actually works really well.

It worked really well, until the last update. Saying that something that deletes all the damage values whenever you press "customize" and that cannot give automatic damage figures (instead giving nonsense figures), and has done for three weeks "works really well" seems, well, misleading at best.

All software has bugs. I work with software solutions, and I've never seen software without issues. But, the platform plays a heavy part in how easy it is to roll-out a fix. For example, there was that old MB "fix" that removed RPGA content and didn't really fix anything on our community "to-fix" list.
The monster damage is an acknowledged problem we have been told will be fixed with the very next update from when it was introduced (we'll see, perhaps tomorrow). That's much faster than for the old MB.

That problem is a known bug that WotC has acknowledged and promised to fix. Other than this bug, the online MB is a really great product. It can still be a whole lot better (export to RTF please), but as a DM who runs a LOT of games I can honestly say that the new MB is better than the old.

I made some monsters last night. The problem with damage values does indeed seem to be corrected.
