Back when I first joined I'd see all these people post awesome things. RavingDorks 1001 Traps comes to mind, and they had decent post counts - and I wouldn't post when I had nothing to contribute.

Then after I returned to the boards and gazed directly at OTT I realized that a high post count didn't mean a poster has been helping anyone or anything at all. I was disappointed a little, even though I was foolish to think people on the internet were generally helpful.

It really depends on the poster. Once you get a feel for a poster's style, you can guesstimate what percentage of that poster's posts are actually useful to the community content, and what percentage is goofing off or being a pointless jerkwad.

Exactly.
@ Easy e...
For example, it is clear that my percentage of contribution is around 98%, as anyone here can attest. Almost everything I say is for the use of edifying or educating the reader. My worth to the Community is priceless because I contribute heavily and without fail... just ask anybody. They'll tell you the same thing I'm sure.

Also, what gave you the idea that post count has anything at all to do with contribution or helping anyone? Also, who decides what is "contributing" or "helping"?

Meh... all posts are helpful to someone. Whether it's a post clarifying mechanics, or just making a joke, someone is bound to be helped by it.

well thats debateable by someone other than me

I knew you would agree with me.

part of my post count has to do with my scribe badge of doing indexes and FAQs,and msot of it was done in the d20 mdoern area and then up in the SW RPG area...now since i have no brand from WotC to claim loaylity I tend to post here instead of going somewhere else to post stuff like news, politics, pointless rants attacking WotC for ruining my childhood memories of the past somehow and or runing the game(s) i love depsite still being bale to play the want with what i have...

I'm pretty sure the majority of my posts were helpful in nature. If I had to guestimate, I'd say between 95%-99% of my post have been helpful.

Yeah.  I looked into that, by the way.  I was reminded why I stopped going 'round the general boards.

Oh tell me about it.  I can't stand this Quantum crap.  Back in my day we had Newtonian and we liked it.

I think most people know not to come to the Tavern for help haha. I mean i think it even says in the description, a place to kick back and hang out or something, nothing in there about helping people.

Yeah but with  General Unified Field theory you could have both, right?

Have you ever actually tried running Quantum and Newtonian at the same time?  Ugh.  What a newb. You either have to strip the Newtonian down so much that it's not worth the trouble or the play at a level where the Quantum is a huge pile of work for no discernable benefit over Newtonian.  Waste of time.  The compatibility of the systems is only on paper, never in practice.

I mean seriously... just... gawd.  Some people.

Hey, it's been a while since I last saw a 1001 thread. What happened to those?

A lot less forum traffic. Last I saw were people doing 101 threads. Those didn't last either. Maybe 11 threads are the way to go.
