If you're terribly afraid of your character dying, it may be best if you roleplayed something other than an adventurer.

Back when I first joined I'd see all these people post awesome things. RavingDorks 1001 Traps comes to mind, and they had decent post counts - and I wouldn't post when I had nothing to contribute.

Then after I returned to the boards and gazed directly at OTT I realized that a high post count didn't mean a poster has been helping anyone or anything at all. I was disappointed a little, even though I was foolish to think people on the internet were generally helpful.

Yes, I do regret my Forum Name...Tech N9ne is clearly the best rapper of all time.

I am currently looking to get in on a Real Adventures PbP game. PM me if you are looking for another PC.

Well... that hurts my feelings.  At least 5,000 of my posts have been contibutory.

We are helping people.  Most notably ourselves.  We're helping ourselves find amusement in the vast wastelands of the internet.  And we do a damned fine job of it, too.

Oh, and I think I may have written 1k helpful posts or so.  Hell, just yesterday I championed an unpopular cause and took all sorts of abuse (enough to get the thread closed).  Me and one other member.  So, I occasionally post 'good' things.  Yeah.  Howboutthemapples?

It really depends on the poster. Once you get a feel for a poster's style, you can guesstimate what percentage of that poster's posts are actually useful to the community content, and what percentage is goofing off or being a pointless jerkwad.

I tend to only say something when I feel I have something useful to contribute or something amusing. As I do not consider myself particularly funny (clever, yes; funny, no) I think that most of my posts are pointful. Of course, there have been several times that I've allowed myself to get drawn into debates and spent five to ten posts trying to hammer an idea into someone's thick-ass skull, or something expressed in a thread just strikes me as so redonkulously stupid, wrong, or inaccurate that I feel the need to jump on it and tear it apart. And once I'm "engaged" good luck getting me to stand down. ... Of course, since I know I can come across as a painfully pompous ass, when I've found that I'm demonstrably wrong I will generally acknowledge it. The easiest way to ruin your integrity is to fight on when you are obviously wrong.

I've seen people who have accumulated significantly higher post counts than I have in far less time. Most of the ones I've seen that have done this were rules gurus in the Magic: the Gathering section of the forums.

Yup.  I earned the first 2,000 or so in the MtG Rules Q&A and YMtC.  The last 3,000 or so have been here, in a group discussion, or in Previous Editions rule forums.

Hey!  I've been better lately, dammit!  I'm participatin' in this 5e thing!  I just wrote two helpful posts in the last 10 minutes!  And lemme tell ya'all somethin': My paltry percentage of useful information is still enough to likely have me posting more useful info than most.  Cuz I friggin' rule.

Meh... all posts are helpful to someone. Whether it's a post clarifying mechanics, or just making a joke, someone is bound to be helped by it.

well thats debateable by someone other than me

part of my post count has to do with my scribe badge of doing indexes and FAQs,and msot of it was done in the d20 mdoern area and then up in the SW RPG area...now since i have no brand from WotC to claim loaylity I tend to post here instead of going somewhere else to post stuff like news, politics, pointless rants attacking WotC for ruining my childhood memories of the past somehow and or runing the game(s) i love depsite still being bale to play the want with what i have...

Flamewars to, those garner post counts...remember how the edition you like most is so much better than the one that you didn't like most?

It totally wasn't, it was unfair.
