ok, a couple of days ago I found a prestige class that gave you either caster lvls or feats every odd level, I can't remember the name of the prestige class or what book it was in. Can you guys help me out?
Can you be a little more specific? You are saying something like
1- +1 CL 2- +1 Feat 3- +1 CL 4- +1 Feat ? Or full caster and feats at odd levels? Something more you remember from the class? (BAB, skill per level, class skills, other class features, Hit dice, saves)
All I can remember is that at every odd level you could chose between gaining a caster level or gaining a feat, sorry for the lack of information but I really can't remember any more than that.
This is really nonspecific. Arcane or divine, or either/or? Five or ten levels? 3e or 3.5? Do you remember anything else?
The only classes I can think of that work something like that are the dragon devotee (Races of the Dragon) and the mythic exemplar (Complete Champion Cheeseball), but neither fit your description.
I can guess that this class is probably a newer PrC (since I'm rather familiar with most of the old ones) and was either written so only a semicaster can get in or was written by someone who favors martial characters (since, apart from semicasters like rangers and paladins, there's no way in hell anyone who could choose a caster level would ever not choose a caster level; feats are in no way balanced with CLs). Which is kind of odd, since that kind of imbalance usually only showed up early in the game's lifespan (elements of it showed up later when they just stopped caring about playtesting - see Complete Psionic or Complete Cheeseball - but they were less common), suggesting it may actually be a 3e PrC instead of a 3.5 one. However, I doubt that's the case - I can't think of a single PrC in 3e that gave you a choice between progressions like that (they tended to follow the progression ElVizard suggests - the only real "choice" most 3e classes had was which spellcasting class to advance, not whether or not they advanced spellcasting.)

I believe it is a 3.5 PrC and the CL worked for divine or arcane, which ever one you are. I also remember that it was a ten lvl PrC, I just can't really remember the class name or the book it was in.

Well, this cuts out the one I was thinking of. Heir of Siberys (Eberron Campaign Setting) is a 3-level PrC that allows you gain a CL or feat for at least 2, and maybe all 3, of those levels.

That does improve the possibility that a similar mechanic was used for a different prestige class in another Eberron book; settings often demonstrate consistency with their personal quirks. I'm not familiar with a lot of the campaign-specific material, though.

The other possibility is that it's designed to support a more flexible selection of entry routes, with the feat option available so that noncasters receive something that they can use. Kind of like what the legacy champion does, albeit less flexible.

Zauber's Mutable Rod: This rod has a number of useful functions that make it easier to live in the wilderness. It is made of polished wood, with five studlike buttons on one end. Each button produces a different effect when pressed. Unless otherwise noted, the rod’s functions have no limit on the number of times they can be employed. • When button 1 is pressed, one end of the rod produces a small flame, equivalent to a candle. • When button 2 is pressed, the rod unfolds into a two-person tent, complete with bedrolls and warm blankets. • When button 3 is pressed, the rod becomes a one-handed hammer, suitable for pounding pitons into a wall. • When button 4 is pressed, the rod becomes a sturdy iron spade. • When button 5 is pressed, the rod becomes a wooden bucket able to hold 2 gallons of liquid. Once per day, it can be commanded to fill with fresh water. If the rod is seriously damaged or broken in any of its alternate forms (button 2, 3, 4, or 5), it reverts to its basic rod form and cannot be activated for 24 hours. Moderate conjuration; CL 9th; Craft Rod, minor creation; Price 375 gp; Weight 2 lb.
Ok, well I finaly found the PrC, it was The Martyred Champion of Ilmater it was in the Player's Guide to Faerun, wasn't as good as I thought it would be, I also apologize for giving the wrong information, you got the CL or feat at every even level rather than ever odd level, thank you all for helping me out.
