Check out the thread on 4e Future releases for the actual tweet that confirms that this new book will be "edition neutral". To me this means no 4e specific crunch.
This book releases in August. Looks like the end of 4e is coming a lot sooner than we thought.
Want to know more about the history of D&D, especially how to play older editions of the game? Check out Crazy Monkey's "Tour through the editions":
http://community.wizards.com/crazymonkey/go/forum/view/133793/225799/Asylum_Play-by-Post
The current edition is BECMI, the most popular form of Basic D&D and the adventure is the classic Red Box quest to kill Bargle the evil magic user. Check it out, learn about the games roots, and enjoy the story as it unfolds.

They probably view heroes of the elemental chaos as the end, simply cause its the last powersource they 'promised' in PHB.
Honestly I'm happy its not more FR themes and the like cluttering up my non-FR games.

Products such as Neverwinter Campaign Setting and The Shadowfell set will still be very useful for story for DMs switching to 5th, for background story and adventure ideas.
We may find it is very easy to convert 4e monsters to 5e ones as well. Hope so!

Why not? If it's "edition neutral", then it can be used in ANY edition. The next D&D, 4e, 3e, 2e, and 1e.

Of the two approaches to hobby games today, one is best defined as the realism-simulation school and the other as the game school. AD&D is assuredly an adherent of the latter school. It does not stress any realism (in the author's opinon an absurd effort at best considering the topic!).
It does little to attempt to simulate anything either. (AD&D) is first and foremost a game for the fun and enjoyment of those who seek the use of imagination and creativity....
In all cases, however, the reader should understand that AD&D is designed to be an amusing and diverting pastime, something which an fill a few hours or consume endless days, as the participants desire, but in no case something to be taken too seriously.
For fun, excitement and captivating fantasy, AD&D is unsurpassed. As a realistic simulation of things from the realm of make-believe or even as a reflection of midieval or ancient warfare or culture or society, it can be deemed only a dismal failure. Readers who seek the later must search elsewhere. - Gary Gygax. 1e DMG.

Which means it has no usable crunch, I don't need WotC to tell me how to create a story.
"Invokers are probably better round after round but Wizard dailies are devastating. Actually, devastating is too light a word. Wizard daily powers are soul crushing, encounter ending, havoc causing pieces of awesome." -AirPower25 Sear the Flesh, Purify the Soul; Harden the Heart, and Improve the Mind; Born of Blood, but Forged by Fire; The MECH warrior reaches perfection. Webster:
> Why not?
Probably because...
1) The person still has old-E products that cover the place, and the fluff in those is just as edition-neutral. (And if "post-Spellplague update!" is supposed to be a selling point for this one then it isn't particularly edition-neutral anymore...)
2) The person doesn't share the fascination in some quarters with Drizzt, drow, Menzo, et al. Thus, a book of purely fluff content about it isn't particularly interesting or useful, whereas usable game mechanics content might still be.
In my case, both are true. (That, and I stopped caring about the FR generally sometime in late 3E, so a book of purely fluff content about ANY part of it isn't the least bit appealing.)

Precisely. Because I couldn't give a tiny rodent's derrierre about Menzoberranzan, and even if I did, if I really want to know about the fluff, there are free wikis all over the net which detail all I could possibly need about the Forgotten Realms. Unless it has crunch in it, I don't care, because D&D's fluff is not why I play D&D.
