Planescape/Spelljammer with a very detailed Sigil and a Totally New and Original SettingTM are the settings I want to see in 5e/D&D Next/New IterationTM.

What about you?

DragonLance, Greyhawk, Mystara are too similar to the FR, sorry but we do not need them.

In order of preference1:
Eberron
Dark Sun
Realms/Greyhawk/Mystara2
New World

  1. These are the order of preference for which I would like to see a setting developed for 5eNext. They are not the order in which I prefer the worlds.
  2. I consider these to be similar enough to need only one of them. Among them, I like Greyhawk the best, and want to see WotC make a 5e release for it the least. I like the Realms the least, and would prefer they make it a setting the most.

Here are the PHB essentia, in my opinion:
  • Three Basic Rules (p 11)
  • Power Types and Usage (p 54)
  • Skills (p178-179)
  • Feats (p 192)
  • Rest and Recovery (p 263)
  • All of Chapter 9 [Combat] (p 264-295)

A player needs to read the sections for building his or her character -- race, class, powers, feats, equipment, etc. But those are PC-specific. The above list is for everyone, regardless of the race or class or build or concept they are playing.

Eberron
New Setting
New Setting
New Setting
Old Settings

I think of the old ones, Greyhawk was the most interesting to me, as a classic world I never really heared anything about. Dark Sun is also interesting, but not my kinda game. I also prefer Eberron to come out before Forgotten Realms (I could do without, personally), but then again... we know how this is going to go.

Eberron
... and past that, I don't really care that much.  I have a friend who's a huge Realms buff, so he'd like that.  I'd look at new settings, but I can't think of any other old settings I've any interest in.
Another day, another three or four entries to my Ignore List.
