Yes, I think this is a perfectly reasonable way to handle things in an Eberron campaign where you don't want a multitude of races. I don't use devas as a race, but I've used reskinned devas in a number of cases. I played a "deva" avenger with the Shaman multiclass feat, on the basis that he was a Cyran human possessed by thousands of spirits from the Mourning. His Memories of a Thousand Lifetimes were the memories of the spirits within him; they were the source of his necrotic resistance; and his ability to conjure a spirit was essentially yanking one out of those inside him. So mechanically he was a deva with shaman abilities... but flavorwise he was just a human peasant possessed by vengeful spirits.

I also like this, it allows the person to use a race or class without changing things in the setting, if you want to keep it "pure".

Of course I don't mind mind allowing a character to use a race without changing it, he might just be a unique individual (not a race per say) either, for instance a character could be a deva but he might be the only one instead of a race of them.

Watching some of the D&D Next panels: it looks like themes are going to be used to replace some of 4E races and classes (the example was that the Avenger is a theme not class and that Deva is a theme not a race).

So I'm thinking what in Eberron will fit as a theme: for example should the Kalashtar be a theme instead of a race? (Kalashtar with either human or dwarf as the origin lineage race?), or the Artificer a theme instead of a class? Warforged stays a race of it own? Changelings, Shifters...

I'm not sure what I think of the idea of a dwarf kalashtar. From a fictional standpoint, there's no reason you couldn't have had some Akiak dwarves among the original Kalashtar hosts, but visually, it's a bit of a shift (among other things, I don't think we've ever shown a kalashtar with facial hair, though I don't know if we've actually said they don't have it...)

It's an interesting possibility, though.

I personally hope that there might be more attention to eberron in 5e because in 4e we only have 2 books, 1 module, and a few eye on eberrons which are all exceptionally well done but just not many of and eye on eberron isn't available to everyone. But so far I think the eye on Eberrons have been really good (even though I haven't read the article) because they cover topics that aren't focused on in the ECG or have low information like Baator (which looks like an awsome article).

I will create a group page for supporting Eberron 5E and will use it when playtesting. i will let everyone know when I create the group. Perhaps we can have Eberron specific polls/discussions every now and then just like WoTC is having polls for 5e rules

The group has been created! I have created a poll concerning the level of some NPCs and added it to the first post of the blog. In my opinion, such modes of participation may be useful for discussing issues we want in Eberron 5E.
The link to the group is: community.wizards.com/eberron5e
Please, let us make this a group effort of all of us who want Eberron to be supported by WoTC in D&D Next.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I have configured the settings of the group so that all members can insert and modify content. I think that this is important in order to truly make this request of support for Eberron in D&DNext a common endeavour. If anyone has problems with managing information in the group, please let me know in order to correct any problems there may be.
Please, insert polls, posts in the blog or any other input you consider relevant.

On the other hand, I apologize if I ever make an English mistake. Just to let you know briefly who I am, I am a Colombian/Italian, born in Germany and living in Spain, and do not have the chance to practice my English as often as I would like. Just so you know, I am a researcher on international law, and many aspects of Eberron are appealing to me because of its political and diplomatic aspects. Given my background, I have always thought that it would be interesting for instance if Sentinel Marshals have (administrative) jurisdiction that enables them to capture war criminals that have committed serious crimes during the last war, especially given their transnational character (just as international crimes can be prosecuted nowadays), and how the Church of the Silver Flame should have been a party to the treaty of Thronehold besides Thrane in order to ensure the protection of religious freedom in all the parties to the treaty in spite of the animosity of some citizens of other nations towards Thrane -in this regard, for instance, in the real world the Vatican is a city State and the Holy See has international legal personality independent from the former-. Perhaps future polls/threads can explore these aspects.
