Yeah even if 5e is going to be bad, at least we'll be able to sit back and enjoy watching the forums explode

I am cautiously intrigued.
VERY cautiously.
Suffice it to say I will retain high hopes, but low expectations, as I have for most of the recent months.

I'm hoping that we really do get a chance to play test things - not just check off boxes for polls. You can't provide adequate feedback on the best option if you haven't had a chance to actually Try it.
Sure, you might be able to completely scrap one option if it's completely silly, but when two options are close, you really need to try them in relation to the other rules in the game.
The roll attribute instead of having trained skills causes some anxiety in some players, but you really need to play it out in combat, see what other elements exist to improve your character - be it feats, non-weapon profs, or other special elements like class abilities.
So more than anything I'm curious HOW they plan to do it.

hell paizo will probably make a fortune on 4th edition
here are the facts though
1. as margaret said, sometime in sept they had a big meeting regarding 5th 2. monte is the lead designer 3. wizards has no history of supporting past editions 4. every l&l column points to a rules-lite 'make it up as you go along' flavor of dming, coupled with far fewer choices for pcs 5. just about every ex-tsr employee or any employee that originally worked on 4th has been blown out
thats just reality-but i hope they leave the 4e tools up

Not a big surprise about 5e. I won't leap to any conclusions yet, I'm quite curious to see what all they have up their sleeves. I am a bit sore about how much I've spent on 4e for such a short-lived edition, but I won't complain too much if 5e is handled better.
The one thing the article does make perfectly clear is that 4e is in fact underperforming. I've had more than one argument on the forums recently where some people were still trying to deny it as if it wasn't intuitively obvious from WotC's behavior.

it would be nice if they told us their plans for the 4e tools. sadly, dungeon and dragon will be switching to 5e. so i guess all the playtesters already new about this

It sounds like they're going to aim for "be everything, to everyone".
Man, they're certainly aiming high. Here's to hoping they'll be able to deliver.

looks like the rules are already basically done "so as a convention special this year, we will be offering show attendees a first-look at a draft of the new set of rules." yeah i bet feedback is going to really make some big changes to that draft
