Not bad at all. Actually looks a lot more like the '63 model, though the front of the hood has been squared off from the '00 model and looks more, well, normal. I dunno, I think that kills some of the charm of the silhouette, makes the front look like every other car on the road.

(Though I'm one of those people who doesn't dislike the old/present look, so I'm biased towards the big swoops.)

Does the way it look help people rationalize buying it even though it was made in Mexico?

If you're terribly afraid of your character dying, it may be best if you roleplayed something other than an adventurer.

Is that a sleight against support for the Mexican government, or a sleight against the price?

It's a slight against VW's quality claims.  'German engineering, Mexican craftsmanship' is hardly a seller, IMO.

You mean like everything people buy nowadays? How many items could you buy that aren't [insert civilized Western nation here] engineering, [insert developing/undeveloped nation here] craftsmanship?

And, you know, Japanese cars are built in America.  So ... yeah.

That's a bit iffy. Would you consider Japan a Western Nation?

Not geographically or culturally (er, wholly culturally), no.  As far as technologically, though, and as far as their development, yes I would.  A modern culture designing modern products made in another modern country.  That's good enough for me.
