Hey all, I need help in choosing an appropriate mount for my wizard. We are starting a game with 5th level characters and a bit of useless money, and one of the players had the idea to use it for mounts. The point is that i'll play a wizard and I can't find a proper one, like one to improve your ranged attacks, etc. All those I can find are things like "Make a melee basic attack as a free action", or "when you charge"... Anybody has an idea? Thanks!

Check out the level 4 ritual Familiar Mount - if you have a familiar, you can make it big and ride it.
Pretty fun to ride a giant Gelatinous Cube or Blazing Skull... you might not get a bonus to attacks, but you look pretty badass.

Ummm...what's wrong with a horse?
If you're looking at the Mount properties of those mounts, you're clearly under the impression that you're going to be facign a lot of mounted combat. Since anyone fighting at range on a mount-whether archers or caster-is pretty much the same as standing still on foot during the character's attack, most Mount abilities are geared towards melee. So, even if you DO face a lot of mounted combat, as a wizard, you will likely be sitting in the back on a stationary horse, casting a spell, and moving when necessary.
So, I re-iterate...what's wrong with a horse? They're cheap, they're fast, and they're domesticated. And they eat grass. So if anyone else is buying something exotic like a griffon, just remember that those things eat meat. And lots of it.

you can always pick a flying framilure, and make it a mount. very cool thematicly for a wizard to do,
Insulting someones grammar on a forum is like losing to someone in a drag race and saying they were cheating by having racing stripes.
Not only do the two things not relate to each other (the logic behind the person's position, and their grammar) but you sound like an idiot for saying it (and you should, because its really stupid )

Suggest they spend that money on rituals for you to cast for the party. With the component cost being as high as it is, you'll burn through that money pretty quick.
Some of my favorite moments in 4e come from piping up with "oh! I have a ritual for that...." and then bypassing half of the challenge with a 10-minute ritual.
Have to have a nice DM, though. Some of my least favorite moments in 4e come from "oh! I have a ritual for that" and then having the DM basically ignore my ritual (but I still spent the components) because it's not specifically accounted for in the module.

That's just bad DMing, though. On both counts.
Skill challenges serve to provide a way for the whole party to use their skills in an encounter-life format, with real consequences for failure, and real rewards (XP at least) for success. A creative player using rituals to aid in the challenge should be rewarded, not punished. But bypassing an entire skill challenge meant for the whole party is a little too far. I'd grant the ritual user at least 2 successes in the skill challenge for using the ritual, and it has to really be applicable to the challenge.

The instance where we bypassed the challenge was not so much a skill challenge as a trap. Unseen servant went in and acquired the Maguffin for us while we waited safely in the hallway. Trust me, the rest of the Trap Finders (our adventuring company's name) did not mind missing one trap in our lifetime of adventuring....
The "ignored it" (different DM) was in a desert adventure, where Endure Elements wasn't allowed to reduce or remove any Endurance checks for heat/exhaustion.
But getting back to mounts for a wizard....

Allright, never mind, if I need a mount only to sit back casting spells, I think I'll be better off spending that money elsewhere, but thanks anyway...
