So I have an idea for a character that I'd like CharOP's help with. The roleplay aspects can be worked in after the baseline is made, and refluffing can be done, though I'd prefer to do as little as possible while maintaining an effective character.

Premise for the character: Because it is never really specified in the source material (as far as I know), in this campaign it is assumed that Vryloka bestow the Blood Rite upon their children when they reach puberty, instead of being born with it. Keeping this in mind, I wanted to make a character that was one such child that refused the Blood Rite and ran away, remaining human. Years pass, and he/she becomes a hunter of evil (vampires, werewolves, undead, etc.), especially Vryloka.

So the challenge to CharOP is to make a Human Evil-Hunter, that works both mechanically and from a roleplay perspective (though the roleplay is not nearly as important.)

What role?

What power source?

What range?

Without a vague mechanical concept (melee striker, ranged leader, blast/burst controller) it's very difficult to come up with anything.
Harrying your Prey, the Easy Way: A Hunter's Handbook - the first of what will hopefully be many CharOp efforts on my part.
The Blinker - teleport everywhere. An Eladrin Knight/Eldritch Knight.

CB != rules source.

S/He would most likely be a defender and/or striker (controller might work in some specialty cases), either martial or divine (though an argument can be made for arcane). As long as it can be justified with the concept, any range works. Something that can do both melee and ranged combat would probably make the most sense from a roleplay perspective, but probably wouldn't be the most effective.

the archetypal "Evil-hunters," are avengers, invokers, and paladins. striker, controller, defender respectively.

My House Rules

Cryptic Commander: a Tiefling Wizard|Warlord - Arcane Wayfarer - Planeshaper that focuses on controlling every creature in an encounter.

Feyknight: A Half-Elf Knight - Gladiator Champion - Marshall of Letherna build that uses Eldritch Strike and the White Lotus Riposte feats to create a decent catch-22 with his mark aura.

Novamancer: a Wizard/Swordmage - Malec-Keth Janissary - Radiant One that specializes in area damage, somewhat item dependent but is capable of massive damage.

the Epic Crit-Fisher: Avenger/Ranger-PMC-Eternal Seeker with a 2,560 damage crit-fishing nova.

Eldritch Slayer: A Slayer - Kulkor - Destined Scion that uses a similar trick to the Knight, combined with Kulkor for some decent DPR.

Polearm Seeker|Fighter: A Seeker|Fighter/Psion - Kensei - Destined Scion build that uses Polearm Momentum to not be super bad.

Generic Runepriest: A generic type Runepriest/Fighter - Hammer of Vengeance - Destined Scion

I would suggest Human Blackguard. Hunting vryloka is not necessarily a good act, but not inherently evil.

You could assume there's a little "vampire-something" floating around anyway.
The Dhampyre stuff in DMA works here.
I mean the human bonus feat could be used for the flavor, or later in the build.
Say the vamp part emerges inspite of not wanting it.
Standard builds with one feat delayed = still totally functional build.

I was leaning towards Avenger or Invoker because those seemed to make the most sense, but was hoping there was some way of changing them so they would be different from the regular class. I miss having a favored enemy (kind of).

For some reason I can't seem to find the Dhampyr stuff... Could be because I'm blind, but that's besides the point.

I'd also suggest avenger. It fits the theme you have perfectly and even when optimized it's mostly a very consistent striker without huge burst. I've noticed a decent number of groups hate large burst damage so consistency sometimes gets around that. Maybe build it as a pursuit avenger to really push the theme with the mechanics.

Avenger would probably be the best, and the paragon path Relentless Slayer (DP pg. 24) pretty much fits your theme exactly.  Level 16 feature isn't that great but the rest is mostly nice, and fits your flavour to a tee - even letting you pick a favoured enemy (not that you get to do much against it it but hey)

Not quite sure how that level 12 utility works though - I would be tempted to as your DM to house-rule it to 'an enemy' rather than 'another enemy' since otherwise it doesn't function without a reach weapon as far as I can tell.
