is it a broken link problem or is there some kind of processing time between when they're uploaded and when they actually go live?
it's pretty annoying to wait all day for new articles and then have them not actually be available until the next day.

Hunh??
Barring a few minor problems (images not linking correctly, etc), most of the time when the announcement goes out, the article is live.

Probably referring to the Racial utilities article that is on the home page, but the download link doesn't work.

I find that also, many times on the Content Calendar a link is broken, and I have to hope that link exists somewhere else (like in Dragon or Dungeon). I notice it seems to be just a typo in the link on the Calendar but it happens quite often (about 20 times in the past 3 months for me), and some of them never seem to get fixed, even when I go back weeks later.
In this latest case, with the Racial Utilities file, neither the Calendar nor the Dragon link work. At least the Dragon link gets me to the intro page, but the download button fails. The Calendar does not even get you to the intro page.
Here is the link from the Calendar:
www.wizards.com/dnd/article.aspx?x=dnd/d...
Here is the correct link from Dragon:
www.wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/d...
So you can see the Calendar just missed adding "utilities" to the end of its link. But this happens too often.
The current download from Dragon points here:
www.wizards.com/dnd/downloads/dragon/402...
So I suspect the file name itself is wrong, I tried it without the "I" at the end and even replaced it with a "1" but neither worked.

yeah, most of the time the articles are up at the turn of the hour, but at least a few times a month the "download' link for the articles 404's when you click it and i'm just curious why this happens. is it a typo in the link or is it just something that happens every now and again with the servers or something?

That's not my experience. Most of the time, I have to wait several hours after the links appear (not greyed out) in the Content Calendar before both they and the link to the actual article PDF are functional. It's got to the point that I usually just wait until the day after they supposedly went up to even try to access the articles.
I haven't complained about it because, honestly, it doesn't actually bother me very much - as long as the article is accessible eventually, I don't mind waiting an extra day. But your claim that this issue is a rare occurrence just doesn't square with what I've experienced.

Indeed it has happend very often this Summer. To the point I stopped bothering to check the D&D website daily as often the articles' links are dead. For hours.

While I have not experienced this except for once or twice a month, I have poked WotC about this to let them know that some people are having problems. I know their files are spread over severeal redundant servers, so it is posisble that there is a problem copying the article to that server.
