Hello there.

I have a "proposal" for you Plaguescarred. You appear to be in charge of things or maybe I have understood it all wrong. Either way I have an idea.

Me and my friends all want to get into D&D. We figured that getting D&D Insider is the best way to do just that. Instead of having to buy a ton of books, we just subscribe to insider.

Now we would do this, but sadly, the virtual table is not released.

So my idea here is:

You guys need people to try the beta of the virtual table, correct? People who sign up most likely have plenty of D&D experience.

So while the experienced guys can give lots of useful criticism, my idea is that why not let me and my friends in (after we have subscribed to insider) and give us a go at the virtual table?

With us being complete newbies to the world of D&D, we could offer a different kind of criticism and maybe help you make it even better for new people to jump in to the world of D&D and thus making it a lot more appealing for people with no experience.

I can easily say that D&D is far from the easiest thing to get into and it is quite daunting if I'd say so myself.

And while we will provide you with feedback, the only thing we would want in return is of course, the virtual table so we can actually play. Smile

I'd recommend getting at least one of the Player's books just for ease of use in learning the system - not everything is included in the online Compendium, and it's not arranged in a format conducive to learning.  DDI isn't intended to be a substitute for the books, and you'll have a steeper learning curve going just off DDI material.  That said, I'd definitely recommend DDI for newbies rather than the entire library of options right off the bat.  But get a PHB or Heroes book, at the very least.  Probably a DMG as well.

Getting into VT beta isn't hard.  Just post/privatemessage you and your friends' account names once you have DDI and you'll get the hookup.

Judging by the short list of people with (invited) next to their names in the OP, I figured it was rather hard.

And yes, I am aware of the fact that we may still need some books. I'll make sure to get a physical copy of the rulebook and another book or two.

Also, is the virtual table only for online play or can I just use a single account? Since we would still like to play with eachother in person. I was just wondering since you said I will have to get my friends to subscribe as well. I was thinking of subscribing myself and then let them play with me and maybe if they really like it themselves they can get their own accounts. (for online play if that is available)

Many WotC employees are out of town for PAX.  I woudn't be surprised to see the list fully invited once they get back.

As far as how many accounts you need, each computer logging in to the table has to have a different account.  You can have multiple characters on the table in one account, so you could do something like all meeting in person and uploading each of your characters to a table run by the one person who has access and use your monitor/TV/projector as your tabletop.  Doing that is on my list of "that'd be cool" projects...

But the main focus is for online play, the ability to connect separated people and play via voicechat.  And for that everyone needs an account, at least for now.

@Blastfemur - You're welcome amigo. For the love of the game, for the love of the game....i must say i am very happy of the results the BETA Guestlist so far. Keep coming...

@Torabi - If you and any of your friends Post here and have a DDi logo i will put their names on the VT Guestlist, that's the best i can do. I can't promise they will get an invite as i am not in charge i am only a BETA tester and simply volunteer to help keep things going in the right direction. So far it help produced good results and hope it will continue. But i cannot promise anything.

Hehe, that's alright. I might subscribe for a month or so and see where that gets me.
