The bigger problem would be that we don't want the judges to have to read every novel referenced to see who well it was adapted.
Well, kind of like this one, you could require a wikipedia entry. Wikipedia entries on movies and books often have plot synopses. Granted some more detailed than others, but that could be taken into account in the judging kind of like this one.

You could also limit it to stuff that's been filmed and require a link to IMDB. That has synopsis as well.

Question: When describing the mechanics created from the myth, must we define something for all parts of the myth, or can we pick a single aspect to focus on?
For example, the Norse myth of Ragnarok features a whole lot going on. Is the idea to stat up *all* of Ragnarok, or could I focus on some small *part* of Ragnarok, for instance, Jormundgandr, or the Einherjer?
If you look past the plot and the voice acting, Metroid: Other M was an okay game. Not a great game, but an adequate one.
Not using the Metroid item collect jingle though? That, was a mistake.

A single element from a larger myth should be just fine. Trying to adapt all of Ragnarok would be... challenging, given the time frame.

And pluisjen draws first blood!
And raised the bar higher than I can jump!
Good job, Pluisjen. Now it is time for me to return to my proper place.
Here are the PHB essentia, in my opinion: - Three Basic Rules (p 11)
- Power Types and Usage (p 54)
- Skills (p178-179)
- Feats (p 192)
- Rest and Recovery (p 263)
- All of Chapter 9 [Combat] (p 264-295)
A player needs to read the sections for building his or her character -- race, class, powers, feats, equipment, etc. But those are PC-specific. The above list is for everyone, regardless of the race or class or build or concept they are playing.

@Seeker95 - Coward! Post an entry and prove you're the better!
@Veok - Also note that we, the judges, had a small discussion about this. You may pick a single element of a myth to adapt, but the aspect MUST be supernatural itself (see the first post). Example, while writing an adaptation of Hansel & Gretel's candy house is permitted since the house is obviously supernatural, writing an adaptation about the breadcrumbs they wanted to use isn't permitted. Their breadcrumbs were not supernatural.

But I am not. I am an idea thief. (I am an editor by profession -- I take other people's ideas and improve upon them.) Pluisjen has proven to me that this competition is above my level of creation. So I shall greatly enjoy reading the masterful work of others.

Question: When describing the mechanics created from the myth, must we define something for all parts of the myth, or can we pick a single aspect to focus on?
From the inital post (emphasis in bold)...
"For purposes of this competition, a "myth" is a story or story element with supernatural qualities, and would likely not have been considered a work of fiction by the original audience"
For example, the Norse myth of Ragnarok features a whole lot going on. Is the idea to stat up *all* of Ragnarok, or could I focus on some small *part* of Ragnarok, for instance, Jormundgandr, or the Einherjer?
Even though i answered this above, I need to ask... why does "Ragnarok" have to by the myth? Why can't the myth be "Jomundgandr" or "Einherjer"?

I do hope I'm not scaring people away from the competition with my entry, that would not be fun. The more entries the merrier.

You scared me away from winning, certainly, but I don't enter to win anyway, so you're safe
