You also said that banning no-shows from future games at a DM's table is elitist.
Enough of the derailment. It appears that the other thread was locked because of going down this same avenue of discussion.
1.5 million people die each year as a result of not having clean drinking water. That is about 3 people every minute of every day. How long did it take you to write that post? And you're getting this upset over a game?

Again, no, I didn't.
I pointed out that calling people stupid and lazy is elitist behavior. I said that screening people to make sure they are acceptable, seems to he having the effect of not attracting new people to want to join in. Because WoTC's design of the VT and Campaign Manager is to encourage open games and pick up games. And if people are keeping their tables invite only and a new person comes and see the only games available are invite only after an interview, it can have the appearance of elitism, and probably turns people off sticking around.
I fully understand you are doing it to try and make games happen.
There has to be a reason why people aren't following through. If something is fun and they are having fun, they should follow through and want to play. I certainly know that the few games I played, I made sure I picked games that didn't conflict with real life, and I didn't make other plans.
There was one game I was going to play, but then couldn't because of real life, and said so in advance.
And I never said you should go do something else if people don't show. When asked what I would personally do, I said I would simply go do something else. I also said that it's not my job to tell people what to do when their game falls through.
What you don't understand is that you're not helping Dane. If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
If you have some specific idea how to fix all the issues at hand, them I'm sure people would be willing to listen. If you keep beating them up saying "you can't fix it that way, STOP IT" you will continue to alienate the other forum posters. I'm not saying I have a solution, but I do recognize what you're saying as valid the first time you said it. After that you have only succeeded in irritating those who are implementing the partial solution that they already have without offering an alternative.
So...please either offer an idea that solves all the below issues in a comprehensive way or sit down and be quiet.
a) Lack of open games in the CM b) No-shows c) Other issues I may not be aware of
And in reality the truth of the matter is this is a problem that WotC needs to solve, not the community. I'm sure this thread has made them aware of it. All that's left to do is to find a solution because any realistic solution will likely involve the coders. For example I liked the idea upthread about not being automatically added to a table and instead having the button say "Apply". This prevents tables being filled until a DM "approves" an "application".

Especially since the email that gives a link to the Campaign Manager also gives a link to the forum.
I've never said the forums are hard to find.
But having to go to the forums instead of using the Campaign Manager, is requiring people to have to read through the different posts. Here's the top ten postings from the Find a Campaign Forum:
Seems most of them are on going campaigns. Not many one shots or pick up. So, if I was new to the beta, and first used the campaign manager, the only thing I'm going to see for games is this:
I understand this is meant to let people know the campaign manager is working, but that's only because so often, there are no games listed, one could easily come and think that it was broken.
Because you have all taken to making your games invite only. But in it's description is a far from friendly jab at people. And no mention of going over to the Find Campaign forum if they want find a game. So a jab, and no directions on what a person should do.
I can't search the Find a Campaign like I can the Campaign Manager. Notice how not all the postings have a date, just a day. Because they are mostly on going campaigns. So basically I have to read through most of the posts, hoping there's one that fits when I can play.
First off, that screen shot of the forum leaves off the "For those who want to join a session right now" post. Which is where most of the immediate activity is posted. As of me looking, there seems to be 2 that recently posted in there looking for a game.
ALL haven't taken to making their games invite only, but when a game is opened up on the CM, the slots fill real quick, which takes it off the list. So no, you aren't going to randomly pop in and see games there available, because chances are someone beat you to it, and it filled up. Whether that game will happen or not is anyone's guess, since until you try to communicate with people, or game time happens, you really don't know if they will show up, or are just filling those slots so others can't see the table and join it.
My Bi-weekly Paragon game started as an open game in the campaign manager. I think 4 of the 6 players that signed up, showed up. It took a couple weeks of asking people in chat to fill in the spots of no shows before I ended up with the reliable group that I DM for now on that table. It is an ongoing campaign, so it's not going to show up on the CM again.
When I have some free time, I open up 1-shots in to CM, but I have a family/job etc, and so I don't have that much free time in which to pop in with spontaneous games, which is why ongoing campaigns work better for me.
But, if you want a game, start one. Like I said, there were two people in the thread I mentioned above that were interested.

What would be your solution for No Shows when running Public Games Dane ?
What, as a DM putting many hours of work into your adventures would you do to make sure your game happen at the date and time you planned it to ?
I'll show up! How do I get into the beta?
I don't know about you, but where I come from, when people don't show up to things they promise to show up to, they typically don't get asked back.
Me too!... Get me in the beta, and I'll jump in any game I could get!!!!

Getting in right now is simple. You go to the DDI general thread, and in there is a post titled "Virtual Table Guestlist"
As long as you are current DDI subscriber, posting in there with a request to be added to the list will probably result in you being a beta member within a couple of days.
