It'd be nice if they'd allow more players into the beta so that more people would actually use the tool rather than sit on the forums and bicker about the behavior of a select few.
Sigh.
The next round of invites have been delayed.

Looks like the next batch of invitations has been pushed back. If you have any friends you'd like to get in, make sure they are DDI subscribers then have them send me a message directly.

Sorry, Froth... I look at Josh's post in a different light.
Looks like the next batch of invitations has been pushed back. If you have any friends you'd like to get in, make sure they are DDI subscribers then have them send me a message directly.
Translation: sell DDI to your friends so they can beta test our VT. The VT isn't worth $10 per month as it stands, and it's not worth the $50-$80 per month for the group of friends I could get actively involved on beta testing.
When I see posts like this, then it's time to open up beta even farther. Either make it wide open or give the curent beta participants 5 1-month gift subscriptions to DDI so they can invite people to join in on the beta.
Reflavoring: the change of flavor without changing any mechanical part of the game, no matter how small, in order to fit the mechanics to an otherwise unsupported concept. Retexturing: the change of flavor (with at most minor mechanical adaptations) in order to effortlessly create support for a concept without inventing anything new. Houseruling: the change, either minor or major, of the mechanics in order to better reflect a certain aspect of the game, including adapting the rules to fit an otherwise unsupported concept. Homebrewing: the complete invention of something new that fits within the system in order to reflect an unsupported concept.

Because the VT is integrated with other DDi offerings, and that linkage is a large part of what WotC is keen to test, I don't think having a subscription to be in the beta is such a big deal. As far as your group goes Jharii, I think your input into the VT would be one of the more valuable since you are a big fan and active user of one of the main competetors of this VT. If your group did even one month's beta test, then the rest of the members of your group dropped their subscriptions, the feedback your could give would be huge, IMHO.

The argument goes, that some idiot at the table might claim that because there is a "default" that is the only true way to play D&D. An idiotic misconception that should be quite easy to disprove just by reading the rules, coming to these forums, or sending a quick note off to Customer Support and sharing the inevitable response with the group. BTW, I'm not just talking about Next when I say this. Of course, D&D has always been this way since at least the late 70's when I began playing.

I think there is some misinterpretation of Josh's statement here. As i understands it:
Josh doesn't ask anyone to sell DDi to friends to come BETA Test the VT,
Josh just say that since there's delay for invitations, If you have any friends you'd like to get in the BETA, make sure they are DDI subscribers then PM him. In other words, don't ask him to get non-DDi friends into the BETA because he won't invite them since the BETA is only open to DDi members.

Why would the 'community' of VT Users be any more inclined to be one big Kumbayah singing group hug than the forums in general, or for that matter people in general? You seem to be holding a serious set of unrealistic expectations.

I would love to. But I can't justify tearing the group away from a system that we've endeared ourselves to, and far exceeds what the VT offers. I'd be asking them to spend money to take a few steps backwards.
Also, I am quite addicted to my custom maps and custom tokens I buy and petition. This is a significant creative outlet that makes my campaigns special. Without the VT offering a method to import and share these resources, I don't know if I could ever make the leap. And nothing would please me more than to host a campaign or two for a couple of groups here.

You want people coming back and play? Then maybe don't start of that relationship calling someone lazy.
Maybe the reason that out of 10,000 people in the beta, the reason that people don't come back and fail to show up for games is because of this kind of attitude? That those most active have an attitude that turns people away?
I'm not surprised. It's pretty natural for people to always think the problem lies outside themselves. But here we have a good example.
Nope rather then ask questions, like, have you signed up? You have? Ok, you should PM WoTC_Josh and let him know and he will add to the list of people to invite next. The best thing to do is call them lazy.
