again though with bloodied status it means you goto keap track of which minons are bloodied if you get a lot which I have ben well known to ocationaly do it gets extreamly tediouse to track any form of status on minions past alive dead or maybe a single effect here or then for such powers like slowing and junk
Its easy when they are two-hit: you only need to put a mark on the mini/flip the token when hit, and take them out when hit again; no major status tracking required.

I use minitures and don't use bloodied tokens, monsters that are bloodied are noted in there HP block on my track list and players simply ask if they want to know and I describe how the monster is looking, before bloodied they show no actual injuries past a few cuts and nicks after bloodied they start showing heavy fatigue a few decent gashed and junk near death they start looking unstable bleading heavily from wounds.
As such a minion to be eather dodges the blow or dies, which is probably why I like the threshold idea. If they are hit yet damage is below the threshold then it hits but just dents the armor or glances off the tough skin or whatever. so any real blow that damages the minion killes it.
But again a lot of that is the way I track creatures

However, ys, LotRs sucked for reasons that had nothing to do with it's combat. It's been mocked over and over on the net for it's massive flaws, www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yqVD0swvWU is one of the funnier ones.
I don't know many people who think that the Lord of the Rings sucked. Hell, even the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences thinks that they're pretty good movies, and they proved it by giving Return of the King the Oscar for Best Picture in 2004.
"How it Should Have Ended" is not a series meant to show how movies suck, but to poke fun at movies we love. See Braveheart and Superman in the series.
It's not famous for that. LMAO! Man, thats one of the silliest things I've heard in a while.
Actually, that's one of the hallmarks of the Die Hard series. John McLean gets beaten, steps on glass with bare feet, has to eject from a plane on the ground when bad guys toss grenades in the cockpit, and so on. He's the everyman hero. He has faults, and he takes a lot of punishment. But he gets back up and keeps going. He also maintains a witty sense of humor. It's a completely different type of hero than Schwarzenegger or Stallone usually protray.
Heroes protect the weak, not effortlessly butcher them and loot their corpses. Except in 4E and apparently in the movies you like.
Minions aren't defenseless or weak thematically. Mechanically, the single hit point makes them weak, but well played minions can decimate (or help decimate) a party of adventurers. Minions are threats, and they can be just as easy or difficult to hit as any nonminion enemy.

I use the "bounce off armor" or "narrowly dodge" type of description two ways. First, I use it as a way to tell people that they hit a normal monster, and it lost some hit points, but's still up. Solid hit descriptions are saved for bloodied and death.
Second, I use it to describe missed attacks on minions. They cover up in time (or use a buddy as cover) from a fireball, and so on.

We use red rubber bands that hang from the minis: easier for all since its a visual aid (and an unexpensive one, both in space and money); other colors are used for specific effects (it also helps the DM, less to write about, and easier to remember to track).
The threhold idea has some problems, as previously stated, that makes some at-will controller powers, that exist expressly to deal with minions, useless at some levels, and may make the minions last a lot longer than intended, if the dice are cold.
