She nodded. "Yes, I've forgotten almost everything. Occasionally I remmeber smalls things as I wander lost in thought, but it is otherwise gone. I don't know where I existed, or anything else about it, only the ost recent thoughts, of games and small cozy rooms. That was what I was lost in when I fell silent before."

She shook her head. "I've pretty much given up on ever remembering the truth."

~Tower~

And so the Reaper, who was not sure that she should be called the Reaper anymore, but was certain that her original name was even more innapropriate, came into the Tower of Hril and soon met with her host.  She bowed, bones clacking against one another.

"I must admit that I am new here.  Why is this tower here in the middle of a storm?  And -"

A sudden whiff of Agnoth's essence wafted over her, and her demeanor shifted.  Had she had flesh, she would have sneered.

"Oh.  You're what passes for a "God", aren't you?  Just my luck."

~Mountain~

Altair shook his head.

"No, we cannot give up!  The Truth is Out There, we just have to find it and grasp ahold of it.  Perhaps there is a way back... back out of this world and to where we came from.  I refuse to believe that all that was Before was destroyed when Before became... before."

Altair
paused as a thought tickled the back of his brain.

"I met a God once who claimed to be from somewhere else.  And another who claimed to know me from some paralell timeline.  We should speak with both of them.  Come with me to the Hall... Its time to have some audiences."

And with that, Altair sped off towards the Hall of the Gods.

Sending the mountain back to floating in it's original location, she followed behind him.

~The Throne of the Gods~

Altair
strode through the front door and slammed the door behind him, right in front of Ilun's nose.  He went and sat on the throne.

"Now.  What was that God's name... Drua?  Drohna..  I need the name to summ..."  He trailed off.

"Easier solution, but this will require more power, I feel."

The gems in the Throne hummed as Altair focused his power into it, willing it to command even the Gods to obey.

Finally, he spoke.

"I declare-"   The gems flashed to life.   "That this game has gone on long enough.  I declare that Vega must appear before the Throne immediately."

The Throne hummed, and Altair waited for a result.

~ The Throne of the Gods ~

It was quiet for a moment. At first the dire proclamation rang in the chilly hall. But the ringing gave up to wing which whistled in the empty spaces about them. And then only silence spiralled in the dead seconds that followed, ticking painfully on. And then the silence exploded, and rained down upon them like a million pieces of shattered glass. Some force, some unreckonable, unfathomable force had slammed against the godly gates of the Hall. And the stone-work, crafted by the hands of the gods themselves, buckled and cracked beneath the force of the attack. Even as they watched, the doors bent, curved inwards, as some force stretched them, bent them in some unnatural way so that they bulged and groaned as no door should, as no solid object could. And suddenly Eago was there, whispering low in his ear.

"Do you want this, master? Are you sure this is what you desire?"  he asked, his voice low, choppy with anxiety, "Once you've done this, once you've made this final decision, there is no going back. You must know this."

Altair faced the door. There was a dreadful pounding. Was that the thing outside? Or was it his own heart? He turned to consult Eago, but found him missing. Had he ever actually been there? He turned back to the horribly distorting door. The walls, floor and ceiling around were cracking under the strain, sending metre-long fractures across the hall. And again the pounding. And he still had not made up his mind.

A wild Ara appears!   Also... this may be the wrong decision, but...

"YES, this is what I want.  I want MY WIFE.  EAGO!  Get back here, you coward!"

Altair
waved his hand and butressing columns appeared, fortifying the main door with divine power.  Then he strode to the door and threw it open, shouting all the while.

"VEGA!  Return, my Love!"

The thought that Ilun was outside... didn't cross his mind at all.

The doors opened. And there she was.

She was so much smaller than he remembered. She stood, small and hunched, outlined by the vastness of the gap left by the doors, he faded robes trailing upon the stone floor. So grand she had been, filling the eye of his memory. She seemed frail, weak in comparison. And her hair? It was blonde. Not fiery red or deep warm brown, or any of the brilliant hues his love-struck mind had invented. Just a pale, wispy yellow. And when she looked at him with those unremarkable blue eyes, he saw that they were filled with tears. What was remarkable was the lack of emotion the sight conjured. He found the display of emotion (of weakness, he found himself thinking) irritating, indecent. Where was the majestic and beautiful creature from his dreams? What was this pathetic creature at his door-step? Surely this wasn't his magical and enchanting wife.

"What have you done, my love?"

Her voice was choked, broken. And he was disgusted to realize, with a flash of the first real shock since she had arrived, that she was no god, there lingered no amount of divine power about her. But despite all this, he was not ready to give up on her. And so he grasped at straws. Surely she was special, at least, able to see him, a god, without quailing, without simply dying, or exploding, or going blind.

"Why have you done this to me? I was happy giving myself up for you. Couldn't you have left it at that?"

She sniffed and rubbed her nose on her sleeve in a decidedly mortal gesture, and Altair couldn't help but feel disgusted. This was surely a perversion, some strange mangling of the laws of reality. Something terrible, something awful was afoot. Vega was looking in such a hopeless manner, he was visited by a violent urge to smack her across the face.

"But then, I suppose you don't know any of it. Not yet anyways."

She sighed deeply.

"Shall I tell you the story? Or shall I walk away, leave you to your godhood, leave you to your kingly duties. I am sure you have many. I beg you. Let me leave this place. The truth is not worth all the loss. Just send me away. If you asked me to stay, I don't think I would have the strength to say no. So spare me, spare us both. Say goodbye, Altair."

 Oh.

Altair
 grimaced.

"What is this, some sort of Trick?  You are not my wife.  How did she deny my summons!"

The being before him... he refused to call it Vega... was barely able to flinch before Altair's hands were wrapped around her upper arms and lifting her into the air.

"Answer ME!  I am DONE with Hide and Seek."

And divine power flowed from Altair, seeking to scour away the frail mortality... someone who came from Vega had to be divine underneath this disguise.   FOR IT WAS A DISGUISE!

"Find love, and the world ends. Time stops. We all fall down."

Vega
smiled sadly, even as she was plucked from the ground and lifted high up into the air. Her feet and the trailing hem of her robe dangled uselessly. She made no attempt to struggle, just stared at Altair full in the face.

"I am not the one who has changed, my love. You have. I am not the one wearing a mask. You are. You are something more than what we were. I don't begrudge this. This was my goal.

"I shall tell you what happened all that time ago. Would you like to hear it? It truly is a wonderful story. We were playing our little game, as we always did. I would hide, and you would search me out, with your big searching eyes. I hid in a special spot that day.

"I wonder now if, given the chance, I would change what I did then. I don't think I would have the strength. My love for you was too deep, too profound. I would never have changed what I did, but would I have told you, then? Let you know what I had done, what was coming for you? I don't think I could have burdened you so.

"I really did die that day. Until then, the world was in balance. You and I were all that was needed. We made everything, it was complete. But playing Rimple day in, day out, just the two of us? That was too selfish. That's the secret. That's what I finally saw. I was so happy... so happy I knew I was doing wrong, wrong by you, wrong by our children, wrong by the world you see around you now.

"Vasa, Vion, they could never have been. This world could never have been, for we were content to let it not be, for we were complete. I died that day. I broke the circle. The world was no longer complete.

"The world starts when love ends. Time starts. We all get back up again."

And now she shook with the emotion, the sadness and the terror. She was weak, she didn't want to go on. But something spurred her on.

"But you brought me back. Here I am. Hello love. And now I must ask the world of you. We cannot both be gods. The world would end. We would be complete. So let me do this, let me walk from this place. I can live as a mortal. I will live, and I will die.

"So you have a choice. Let me leave, let me go live life as a mortal. You will watch me live, fall in love, get married. I will have children of my own, and I will grow old. I will grow older and older, and then I will die. Or take my place. Give me that burden. I become the god, and you the mortal. Please don't do that to me. I haven't the strength to watch you die."
