So we were playing a few days ago, and a ranger climbed up an obelisk while under a save-ends effect that slowed.. On a fail, he fell unconscious. He fell far enough to take 1d10 damage.
Alright, now the question is, since he's unconcious/helpless and taking damage upon hitting the ground, is that damage maximized like a coup-de-grace?

No. Coup De Grace is an action deliberately taken by a creature. Just being helpless or unconscious doesn't automatically make every damage roll against you a coup de grace. Every attack against an unconscious foe is not a coup de grace, and falling isn't even an attack.
