The latest weapon of the WAR10CK's arsenal. thanks to a grant from.
APERTURE LABORATORIES! The Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device. Now any ideas on how to inplament this into a useable item. Make a ranged basic attack against an object. Account for distance. (It has a range of 20/40). Success puts a portal there. Shoot again. Success puts a portal there. Now you can see and travel between them. Limit two portals. At will power. Portals last for 1 hour before closing. Hehe, I want the crazy AI that would be a race though. The portal gun weighs what? 20? 30 pounds?
@book5
You mean GLaDOS as in Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System? (Sorry I have never known how to do quotes.)
The ranged attack idea will work however I was intending to have each portal remain open until it is shot in another place. Just like the orange and blue portals. So it would be orange portal here and blue portal there with an indefinite range while accounting for distance like you said. However like in the game if you shoot the orange or blue portal somewhere else then it moves to that location. If the PC wants he can close one or both portals with a special function.
This may require a significant amount of dexterity and other skills too though. So how do I determine what to use and adjust the testing environments to be proportional to the groups PC levels? Also the regarding the Aperture Science Emancipation Grille. While walking through it closes both portals automatically and emancipating unauthorized puzzle elements that try to leave the area, is it a good idea to have it emancipate other objects like gear, artifacts and body parts? I am asking this because I do not want to get bashed by my group for stupidly doing something like that and not knowing it would tick them off. Actually including this in a game would be enough for most groups to bash you. Don't emancipate anything, just have it turn portals off. Honeslty, the new portal is multiplayer. Play that. I put a timer on them because people outside of that lab can simply teleport halfway around the world, and drop the second portal. Every fight is now auto over as you drop your foes halfway around the world. Into the ocean. One hour makes this harder. The challenges are not really level effective. They are puzzels, I mean.....I guess that you could put a couple skill challanges like jumping in the wind vectors correctly.....well yeah. Balancing on the moving platforms. Target challanges. One question? Considering that the game had infinate lives and such.....will the players get infiniate lives? I mean ~ each level was a death trap :evil: GLaDOS!
Ok I see what you are indicating here. So maybe there should be a range limit for the device. What would be a reasonable range to use?
