Hi everyone,
we have just gotten our feet wet playing the first four adventures. We are coming close to our first campaign and I looked over the rules. It says to draw only three treasure cards inbetween adventures and choose between those for buying equipment. Do you know if they mean three per person? If there are more than three players, not everyone could even buy a treasure? And if there are three, the last person can't even choose anymore.
Please let me know your interpretation of that rule. Also, I just checked the boon cards thinking that they would give a distinct advantage, but it seems quite small, is that right? I haven't played the campaign yet, but what advantage would the short cut give me?
Thanks,
Biancard

"To determine what's available for purchase, turn over the top 3 treasure cards."
That is all you do, nowhere does it say per person. The amount of gold you usually get often isn't enough to buy tons of treasure; and it's just what happens to be available at the time. After a few successes you do get Dwarven Traders which lets you draw 5 instead.
As for the boons, they are a little underwhelming.. but you'll see as the campaign progresses it becomes ridiculously easy. I love the idea of the campaign, but by the 3rd - 4th game it feels like you're level 10s in a level 1 dungeon... its not a challenge. NinjaDorg has some nice ideas for using the CR Monster Tokens to add some challenge back into it which you could adapt based on how far in the campaign you are and/or how much loot you have.
Short Cut! and Bypassed Guards (same thing, different name) just let you play the top tile for 'free' which means you're that many tiles closing to the Dire Chamber (which is always the 9th to 12th tile from the top).

Thank you for your response. Only being able to choose from three treasures does make sense I guess if you say that it becomes too easy anyways soon. I didn't think it would, because we usuall end up having a lot of treasure cards helping us through a normal adventure round and if we start the campaign we will have a lot less treasure cards at our disposal, because we will keep finding gold and such instead, right?
I just don't want it to be too hard either, particularly because I am playing with kids. The game is quite hard to beat a lot of times.
Right now we are in the end of Closed Doors and just found the Chamber and the Gauth... wish us luck :-)
By the way, you are German, correct? I am also from Germany, but I live in US now.

The initial adventure will be harder, but it quickly snowballs after that even with the limited treasure. I can’t say how the Elite Regiment and extra encounter draw impacts the game as both campaign attempts we managed to kill Ashardalon when we drew the Treasure Hoard tile, well needless to say a bit disappointing. The extra encounter draw might help balance the game out, except it’s pretty random when it comes, potentially even being your first chamber. I’m Canadian, the name was just from when I played AAM. Good luck on the Gauth!

Thank you for the good luck wishes, we needed them. I thought for sure we had lost, my younger son was ready to throw the towel when my older one missed his last special attack against the Gauth that he had... and then last moment we realized that he had two lucky charms left that saved the day!
So we made it by a hair and will be ready for our first campaign now. I know they will be itching for more treasure cards the first adventure...
Oh and thank you for pointing out the advantage of the short cut and bypassed guards. We drew the encounter card "Lost" this time and it seemed to take forever to find the chamber, so now I have more aprreciation for these cards.

Thinking about giving the campaign rules a shot but can't find any official info anywhere regarding leveling up. If you reach level 2 do you stay level 2 going into the next adventure in the campaign or do you revert to level 1?

We played that you stayed level 2--
However AFA easy goes--
Yeah, things were going smoothly, we had cleared out the orcs and kobolds and were in the midst of doing the same to the Duergar (we were playing the clear out the clans campaign adventure!)--
When suddenly we pulled the ASHARDALON AWAKES! card. We had played about five games and never come across this one before--
Holy shmoly!
The thing is-- we actually managed to kill the dragon, but he had so weakend us, we got clobbered shorltly after and lost the game.
My friends felt if we killed the dragon, we essientially should have "won" the adventure (even though technically the "goal" was to finish off the last clan lord).
But I argued, maybe we (in this scenario at least), we had just driven him off. Anyway-- there was dissention in the ranks--
Thoughts? What is with that card? Are you supposed to leave that card in the deck for each adventure??? There's something awesome about your tromping around the dragon's mountain and he just suddenly shows up-- but shouldn't there be a "drive him off" threshold--?
Otherwise, suppose you're playing the grand campaign, it kinda takes a bit out of the climactic ending if you've already encountered Ashardalon and killed him along the way.

If you are talking about the Ashardalon Arrives! Adventure Encounter card, it and the other three Adventure Encounter cards are supposed to be removed form the deck, unless the specific adventure tells you to add it. Looking through the standard adventure book, none of the 13 adventures tells you to use that card.
