WotC came out this morning not with a bang, but with an explosion. As if the announcement of a new edition of D&D were not enough, they seem to have taken this to some other level of madness we have yet to be capable of measuring. I can't even begin to explain this, but I will simply say that "Cards of Fate" essentially sums it up. For more, you will have to see the announcement yourself... WotC Announces New Chapter for D&D

Almost fell for it.
Nice.
I do not like 4th even if I can recongnize it's intelligence.
The real questions are; what is up? Why the cancellations and the emags content being so empty?

This has been addressed in a few places, but I'm way too tired to find them now. I know Chris Perkins addressed some of this again in a podcast someone posted recently (they interviewed him at PAX).
Yea, none of that answers your questions, but I'm half asleep at this point

I secretly invited a number of people to be involved in this project in various ways - and when I say secretly, I mean, they didn't know about each other. Some knew that there were "a few others" but no one knew specifically who else was involved or how many. With that said, some of their articles have been going live over the last 2 hours and I thought I would link them... "The Angry DM" of angrydm.com:...wrote an "angry" response to the idea of such a game as Dungeons and Warcraft existing, which you can read here... " Its the End of D&D as We Know It, And I Feel Sick" "Sarah Darkmagic" of sarahdarkmagic.com:...wrote up the premise for Candyland as a setting for Dungeons and Warcraft. You can read it here... " Announcement: New 5e D&D Setting" "Thadeous" of myrpgame.com:...wrote an article about getting to playtest the system, and how much he enjoyed a specific aspect of it. You can read it here... " 5th edition Exclusive Preview: City building" "The Secret DM": of magecrammer.com:...wrote the following testimonial for the game... "Finally! With all the endless options of an RPG and the stringent restrictions of an MMO, Dungeons & Warcraft is just the game I've been hoping for, and I can't wait to see what the actual play experience is like -- only because so far, every game session I've been in ends before we're finished shuffling all 300 decks"

What are you idiots smoking? Not only do you have no idea what the community wants you go ahead and make a fracking card game?? If you haven’t guessed I will not buy this any more than I did 4.5; what you call essentials.
Yes I fell for it.

Advice for DMs: When you are ad lib or improve DMing don't self-edit yourself. Some of the most fun you'll ever have is by just going with whatever crazy thing crosses your mind based on what your players are doing. Advice for Players: When your DM is ad libbing there are bound to be plot holes and inconsistencies that crop up. You'll all have a lot more fun if you just roll with it instead of nitpicking the details. Previous Advice

Advice for DMs: Always dangle a lot of plot hooks in front of you players. Anything they do not bite you can bring back and bite them later.
When considering a new house rule ask yourself the question "Will this make the game more fun?" Unless the answer is a resounding yes don't do it.
Advice for Players: Always tell the DM not just what you want to do but also what you are hoping to accomplish. No matter how logical the result is it will never happen if it simply never occurred to the DM.
"That's what my character would do" is not a valid excuse for being a disruptive ass at the table. Your right to have fun only extends to the point where it impedes the ability of others to do likewise.

I love WotC's April Fool's stuff. Regardless of how (or maybe because of how) crazy people react (GLEEMAX and My Little Pony), I have always enjoyed the jokes.
