Looking at the release schedule for WOTC it looks like that is it for GW?

Yep.  I've been a fan of GW since the first ed, and you get used to it.  GW has never had a decent run in any edition.  The 5th, for instance, was canceled before it hit the shelves, with just one suplement in the pipeline, so only those two books were ever available.

GW has often been other properties' bitch.  They use it to push whatever other game or trend they want to give a boost in popularity.  3rd: Marvel Super Heroes; 5th: Alternity; 6th: d20 Modern; 7th: making RPGs into CCGs.

3rd edition has about 5 adventures and some of those were also rules supplements. Delta fragment, I think, was a rules supplement.

That is lame. I don't know much about this time period but from what I gather it was actually Alternity that got canceled, and GW got the shaft as a result. But I hear what you are saying.

I'm curious to hear from old timers. How close is LoG and FiFG to what was released in 1st ed? Based on the trend of these two box set expansions, I would expect that IF wotc released further expansions they would be re-dos of previously released expansions. If this is the case, which of the older expansions would you all like to see redone?

I honestly was a little disappointed with Legion of Gold, but I suspect I would have been disappointed no matter what was produced. Legion of Gold was the best adventure module out of any game system I've ever played. The Barony of Horn where the adventure was set was described in just enough detail to spark GM ideas. Additionally, encounter locations were included on the map that had nothing to do with the main adventure arc so it felt like it was meant to be explored. In fact, the players did't even hear of the Legion of Gold until the second chapter of the adventure. (The adventure was broken into roughly 3 chapters.)

The original LoG was a 31-page adventure complete with side-treks and appendices and over 100 encounter areas. The only thing it shares with the original is plot, which is sufficient for 4e. But KJordan's nostalgic lamentation matches my own.

Here are the PHB essentia, in my opinion:
  • Three Basic Rules (p 11)
  • Power Types and Usage (p 54)
  • Skills (p178-179)
  • Feats (p 192)
  • Rest and Recovery (p 263)
  • All of Chapter 9 [Combat] (p 264-295)

A player needs to read the sections for building his or her character -- race, class, powers, feats, equipment, etc. But those are PC-specific. The above list is for everyone, regardless of the race or class or build or concept they are playing.

For the person who spoke about maps fading on the edges, do you ever get your's laminated?  I've laminated a few maps here and there and I must say I love it.  Helps them to lay flat, you can draw on them with dry erase markers (or was that wet, I'll have to double check)  When your done roll em up and put them in a poster tube.

I just picked up 2E Gamma World and a bunch of modules at my local game store's auction. I got the original Legion of Gold, the original Famine in Fargo, OG Mind Masters and The Cleansing War of Garrick Blackhand. It's been awhile since I owned any of these. I am eager to check them out anew.

@MiniGeek: How much does it cost to have a battlemap laminated? You go to FedEx Kinkos?

I used to go to staples, but I moved closer to an office depot.  They charge 1.99 a sqaure foot.  So it usually cost about 10 to 12 dollars (I do other maps besides D&D maps.)

Sorry I can't give exact numbers.

I'd like more monsters. I've converted a lot of monsters from 4ed D&D, but I'd like more original ones. The wackier, the better! And maybe some premade encounters.
