So I require assistance. I've been Gammarizing my hometown, but I find my creations trend a little too much towards the mundane, in particular because I live in a fairly mundane, uninteresting region with a history that (while interesting) none of players know or care about, and I want something decidedly more wacky. Now, in order to overcome my wackiness writer's block, I'm reaching out to the community! The basic idea is that Ohma was bombed into oblivion, destabilizing much the city and causing a massive sinkhole, into which the waters of the Misery River flowed, resulting in a giant, irradiated morass, surrounded by smaller, barely-post-tribal towns. If that spawns something, great, but don't let it hinder anything. Recently snagged ideas (pulled from @dazedsaveends fantastic barrage of retweets, among other places):
- Radioactive sky pirates
- Truckasaurus (located in the Carfields, the remains of several miles of car dealerships)
- Cowboys on dinosaurs (inspired by Ruby)
- Fortress/tank mounted on a creature (giant tortoise, sandworm, etc)
What sort of outrageous encounters do you have planned? Anything really zany?

Remember the Big Mistake could have brought other realities into your hometown. Why not have some alternate reality version where the sports teams weren't teams of humans, but teams of robots, and games weren't for fun, but much like Robot Jox teams played to settle territory disputes?

I'm guessing you're Gammafying Omaha, NE?
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of Omaha is the massive grain elevators. A huge tower filled with potential foodstuff would make an excellent stronghold for a warlord-type villain, who would trade food for loyalty. The tower makes an excellent lookout for his minions, and if anyone defies him, well... remember that scene in The Witness? BAM, a hundred thousand bushels of grain on their heads!
Also, it occurs to me that, in a worldline where human civilization began in the Americas, a place like Omaha could have been the center of a great empire - an American Babylon. With abundant fields to feed its people (and therefore its armies) and control of the main trade routes across the center of the continent, the Ohman empire would have stretched far and wide ... until the Rise of Ishtar dragged the Ohmans into a world war that drained their resources and left them unable to maintain their far-spanning trade routes.

Remember, mundane can become ZANY or just really cool when you look at it through Gamma colored glasses...
Local Zoo becomes haven for animal based PC's and creatures. Bonapartists rule there! Maybe worship the mascot of State or college sports team.
A science museum or planetarium, inhabitated by cult of UFO watchers, or filled with Omega and guarded by the radiated staff!
A local florist shop has become a giant mutated intelligent plant intent on converting the area into a new Garden of Eden.
Police station now home to a Serf warlord and his gang!
Also check out they types of animals native to your home; roving packs of mutant Deer that particpate in "Man Season", if you look vaguely human... KA-POW!
Take the stuff you walk/drive past everyday and turn it on its side...

Some local site ideas:
- Turn the Henry Doorly Zoo into a sentient/mutated animal park, run by a pair of fellows named Jim Fowler and Peter Gros (of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom fame).
- Turn the Strategic Air and Space Museum into a tech salvage haven.
- Have a porker gang holed up at the Durham Museum (train yard).
- Make sure the Heartland of America Park & Fountain is functionally irradiated.
- Have bandits set up a toll to cross the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge.
- Have the Fire in the Hole visible from miles away with its nighttime radioactive glow.
- Make The Road to Omaha or the Dance of the Cranes sculptures come to life.
- Use Glenn Cunningham Lake (or the Gene Leahy Pedestrian Mall) as a pure strain human survivalist compound, complete with RVs.
- Cancer Survivors Park could take on a completely new meaning.
- Boys Town has GOT to be used (with a new Father Flanagan, of course!)
Here are the PHB essentia, in my opinion: - Three Basic Rules (p 11)
- Power Types and Usage (p 54)
- Skills (p178-179)
- Feats (p 192)
- Rest and Recovery (p 263)
- All of Chapter 9 [Combat] (p 264-295)
A player needs to read the sections for building his or her character -- race, class, powers, feats, equipment, etc. But those are PC-specific. The above list is for everyone, regardless of the race or class or build or concept they are playing.

What sort of outrageous encounters do you have planned?
1) I used the Far-Go road hog encounter to represent Jousting Knights of Purity mounted on skycycles (here and here). The head Knight's cycle had an on-board computer called the Knights Of Purity Personal Pilot (KOPPP), which the PC's promptly threw away. 2) I'll be adapting the Coney Island Xcrawl (clown themed dungeon) to Gamma World 3) I plan to use Zoids as Gammarauders

Ooh, I just hadan idea, going back to my thoughts about the grain elevators...
How about a grain elevator that turns into a massive semi-sentient concrete golem, armed with an oat cannon?
C.O.N.A.G.R.A. (Cylindrical Object Noted for Automated Grain Reproduction Abilities) is just trying to "feed the world" by spraying its oat cannon at small towns, but it usually just ends up accidentally burying its unwitting victims and choking them with grain dust.

FBJ, please give us a sense of what you have taken from this thread and implemented (or chosen to implement) in your game. What has been helpful?

I like this idea and I want to put some more thought into an answer so... How far out to the Platte River is the radiation/crater zone?? - considering that it almost goes around the city I thought that it would be a clean source of water and could be damed for a reservoir. At Hwy 80 or Hwy 6. I'm assuming Offut Air Force Base is completely dust?? ...
