Just so people know it appears whatever systems they but in place to highlight when an article gets update aren't working.
The Class Acts: Knights article from last month, has been updated on the 9th Feb without any indication on the article page or the contents page, only in the artilce pdf itself.
So seems the only way to be sure you have an up to date article is to check the website and download the pdf every time.
Sweet.

Well, it's simple. Download an article an then read it. Delete the file. If you want to read it again, download it again. Delete the file. If you want to use something of it in your game, just seconds before using it, download the file. When the adventure is over, delete the file. Only this way you will be sure that the article that you used is the most recent one... Yes, it's that easy! Don't be lazy!
English is not my native language, so I ask for your patience...

Somehow I thought this is my hobby... not some book-keeping exercise. Oh well...

It seems fairly obvious that the compilations were NOT an option that was "largely unused"; and, from numerous posts here (as well as some personal experience), that compiling multiple PDFs into one compilation is not that difficult. Plus! It is what we, as D&DI subscribers, are paying for!

dear wotc, we understand that it takes time to make a compilation pdf of an issue's articles. what if we compensated you for the time it takes by, i don't know, paying you a subscription fee?
here's a less snarky suggestion: at least post a zip file of an issue's pdf articles.
as much as i love d&d, i don't have the time to follow the site + download articles as they become available.

Heh.
If I had even the slightest inclination to resubscribe (I know the VTT is coming soon, and the character builder features are coming soon, and better quality/more articles are coming soon, but... not paying for 'soon' XD) I'd totally start a community group up called "See How Easy It Is?" and each month I'd compile all the articles into one magazine PDF, and send them to all _D&DI MEMBERS_ in the group.
Oh well. Maybe one day when Wizards adds more features to their strangely consistently-priced 'product' people can look forward to getting the compilations again if I resubscribe. Unless a current subscriber wants to cover that job =P

Heck yeah, I need to follow WotC business model. Put out the bare minimum and let the community shoulder the work... Great idea thanks!

We’re not cutting back on content, we’re just eliminating an option that goes largely unused.
So now this has been revealed to be untrue, that you are in fact cutting content, down to a target of 50,000 to 60,000 words rather than nearly twice that on average. Do you have anything to say for misleading folks?
The numbers aren't as important as what they're cutting out of the articles: crunch.
They've been routinely releasing preview articles with lots of crunch, with the final version having all of it (or nearly all) cut out, with only the fluff remaining.
WOTC: I don't want fluff. I don't need fluff. I don't need your help making up character backgrounds. I want stuff I can actually use in my games, and until that changes, that hole there over to the left where the red DDI dragon icon used to be will remain.

Just a consideration: I'll pay a subscriber fee each year (from the beginning) for a certain (supposed) service and I'm very disappointed of Wizards continuos changes. (for the most part not improving anything but worsening it somehow) 1) the decision to make Character Builder on line was the first sign that wizards begin to navigate amids the icebergs (just to make a paragon) hedless of the many warnings of deluded subscribers. Not everyone has at his disposal a web connection where the gaming group use to play, Character Builder was one of the motives for which I decide to subscribe and...zap! They have taken out all the fun! 2) I've tryed to understand this decision and when finally I have complied with this (or more exactly passed over)... zap! Dragon/Dungeon are no more downloadable as a complete PDF format each month! This is enough! If the things don't change soon for a better way FOR EVERYONE I will not renew my subscription when it will elapse. (worse I will stop playing with Wizards games and put my efforts to more sensitive production houses) Regarding the quality ot the latest D&D products (they are cheap to say the least) I think Wizards is well far off the line. A last question remains: how much time will pass before the ship will hit the iceberg and sink? I (and many others I suppose) will not be on this ship when it happens. Wizards you would better to pay attention to these ominous bulletin warnings....

I think the problem here is WotC is looking too much at web stats to think of usability, instead of actual thinking of what the end user is actually doing.
At DDXP, they said Fighters are the most popular because that's what there are the most of on the character builder. This is a popularity falacy. In reality, there could mostly be fighters because fighters have the most options and many D&D players like to make characters as much as playing.
The magazine article/compilation seems to be the same issue. Not as many people download the compiled issue as download the article. I don't know if this goes for others, but I will download, read, and redownload an article multiple times a month as I read related forum posts, based on where I'm at, etc. The compiled issue, I only download once. I save it to my netbook and that's my resource that goes with me to game. I don't go back and redownload the whole magazine file. I like the compiled issue for the same reasons others have said, it's better to open one file on my netbook than to open 5 and with some tablets, that's the only option.
I hope they return to compiled issues. And absolutely it needs to be made clear when articles are updated. Everytime.
